MANY WAYS WERE TRIED by Ashishika before she cruelly dispensed her decision.
Somedays she refrained from anything at all. She wondered how big was it a deal after all several, many, woman are arranged married and most of them have once or ever fell in love with someone and not married the same person. They looked happy. They were. But then, the storm of her own feelings roared inside her and she could not think of parting with him.
Somedays, she was so anxious and desperate and sad and broken that she went to the heights of thinking to elope. Maybe, they were the bottoms.
She thought maybe she should run away. With him. But as much as she knew Arit, would he elope with her or anyone as such. As much as she knows herself, would she do so, defame her own father for feelings she is uncertain of. Maybe everything would amount good if they make something of themselves later but could she, could she take in all the insult and trials? Never.
Many days, she blamed Arit.
It was his so big of dreams that he has gone so wary to discard anything, any position junior, in result, he was unemployed at still the age of four-and-twenty. If only he had taken on something, not left his job from a year for the sole preparation of this exam.
She asked her father to give her some time. For if he gave her just a year, just a year, she was sure she would pass this time if not Arit though in Arit she believed more than herself. She cried her eyes out, thinking little of vanity.
Last days, she wondered what was she more afraid of? Losing Arit? Or losing herself?
Ashishika had dreams which she was assured of. Her to-be-fiance, who was a navy captain had assured her that she would be given the chance to fulfill her dreams. There was no doubt he would not do so.
The first day when she had met him, she knew why he was chosen for her, if there was another fact that he was the son of her father's old, old friend.
His boyish eyes, gorgeous features and good salary were cause enough. And was not it just so good, the dowry was so less.
This young, good-bred, charming and stong-built guy has never been in love, the happiness with which he conveyed was presenting this very fact adamant, just like this that he admired the woman in his front.
A few meetings made it more than sure that he will admire her always. While when it came to understand, maybe he could barely do. He will become her husband, truly, one who would love her with whole his heart, but her heart, maybe he could barely fill. But, she will be happy. Everyone argued so.
At the day of her engagement, in the ceremony, she had again thought, what should she do?
She was not a naive girl of fifteen to hastily take a decision, elope for feelings that were maybe in truth very little, but felt the world then. Nor she was at an age when to just accept whatever she was thrown into as her fate. There is no such age for a matter of fact and any can be.
The world was crashing down on her and she was asked to smile. So, she smiled.
Like she smiled at Arit while she walked to him with a settled grace like she had all the answers to why, why she had broken his heart?
Though, she had none for herself.
The water poured down in an haste, the sky screamed and flashed while she walked in slowly, carefully, to him, under the shade of an black umbrella when he was left to soak down. His eyes never left hers, nor she tried to look anywhere else, she was confident in herself or that she had accepted her fate.
When they were only two steps away from each other, she dropped the umbrella on the side, water splattering around it, instead of taking him too into the shade.
All other times, she had.
In case, a tear slips, she would not have to hide them. In case, he wishes to cry, he can, without a worry. In case, they were to part which they were, there would be nothing holding them together.
"I- you- " Arit could not put forward his thoughts, he was not very sure of them himself.
"How was the pre?"
"Huh?" Confused, frowned, he nodded, swallowing. She smiled at him, sadly, and looked at his face for a good few seconds.
Among every relationship, one loves the other more, the idea of loving equally is a lie. Among them, Arit was the one more of a lover.
Ashishika loved him, but not so much so to forego everything for him. Nor did Arit love her like that, maybe not or most probably.
She lifted her hand, one she had wore the ring on, answering any uncertainty if he had. He had. While his eyes darted to the little left, she looked at him. In her own silhouette in his eyes under the golden shimmer of the lamppost, she could see waves of pain seeping in them.
Sighing mentally, she said, "My father said he could not marry me to a man who has no employment." She smiled, warily.
She was stern with her words, blunt so, and those were nothing new to Arit, even if it was the first time they were, truly, spoken directly. He swallowed, his eyes filling to the brim. But the night, the rain, the rainy night helped him in hiding them.
"The pre was good." I will make it this time, surely. He did not say more. He did not care what her father thought, what she did was what mattered to him.
Ashishika had nodded. His eyes were fixed at her when she spoke bluntly, "They were good, before, three times too."
Arit was baffled. A breathy scoff of chuckle left his mouth as he took in the meaning of her sentence. He just looked at her.
In her eyes, he saw determination, to go on her own path which did not present any inclination of having him with her. They were moist, her eyes, but they could just be the little pain of parting with someone she has known for long. Whatever it was, he did not hope to find any more.
No more was said, no more was needed to be. Not a goodbye, neither any well wishes.
For once, the world blurred in front of him and he felt himself losing. For once, he was regretting having so big of dreams. For the first time, he repented falling in love, ever.
That night, no haze coated his heart.

In simple terms, Ashishika and Arit were over, cause Ashishika's father would never marry his daughter to an unemployed youngster. Do you think, Arit should have continued his job, he might have then married her? Or do you think Ashishika should have waited on him, could she have had?
