Davey's POV:
When I grabbed the book off the shelf, the last thing I expected to see were her piercing green eyes staring back at me. To avoid embarrassment, I started walking away, but then I noticed the soft light halfway up my chest and froze. Was it her? In a few seconds, a boy was running up to me, excitement in his eyes.
"Where are you going? She's your soulmate!" He grabbed my arm and started dragging me in the direction he came from. "Wait. What's your name?"
"David, but what-" He yanked me around a corner, back to the redheaded girl, now surrounded by the glow, and two other boys, one of which was holding her hand up to her face, the other leaning on a crutch, eyes transfixed on her glowing fingers. I recognized the one with the crutch from the campus café, but the other two were complete strangers.
"Maddie," The boy who had brought me back said, "Meet David."
