FRANCE, DECEMBER 1943
They were only a day away from the Hydra factory they were going to attack. Howling Commandos, Steve insisted on calling them much to everyone's dismay, were sitting in a circle trading stories as Gabe tried to light the driest wood they could find on fire. With a sigh, he threw the matches at Jim and rubbed his hands.
They were all dressed in the military uniforms made with Howard's help, Steve wearing an updated version of Captain America costume. Evelyn on the other hand was wearing a dark grey one piece Howard made especially for her with a leather jacket on.
"Okay, gents." Evelyn spoke up making them look at her. "I'll light the fire but don't freak."
"These are wet wood, Evelyn." Gabe shook his head. "You're not going to be able to do it."
Evelyn looked at Steve for affirmation and he nodded his head. She bit her lip and walked over to the wet wood, crouching down next to them. Putting her hands out, she dried them, steam coming from the wood as they dried. She heard a gasp coming from the men and took a deep breath, forming a fist. Hitting the wood with a solar blast, they went up in flames. She quietly sat back and looked at them, all of them staring at her with wide eyes.
"Say something." She pleased, feeling like she was burning under their gaze which seemed to snap them out of their initial shock.
"What?"
"How?"
"Quoi?"
"Are you a witch?"
"I'm so confused."
They all muttered at the same time, Steve looking at her with a small smile. Her eyes met with Bucky's who had fascination shining in his light blue eyes.
"No, I'm not a witch, Dugan." Evelyn rolled her eyes at the man who shrugged in response. "Okay long story short me and my sister found an anomaly back in 1935. My sister touched it, it sent us away with a blast. Somehow, whatever it was, we absorbed it. So now..." She opened her fist to show a solar ball. "I can do this."
"Okay, that's so cool." Jim exclaimed with wide eyes.
"Well, Miss Sunshine." Dugan spoke after taking a sip from his flask. "Ready to fry some Hydra ass?"
BELGIUM, JANUARY 1944
After their successful mission in France they were sent off to a factory in Belgium, destroying the factory like the one before. This time they had a camera with them, being tasked with taking videos on their way and back to show the nation candid shots, to inspire hope.
Evelyn felt like she had found her purpose with the guys, all of them having gotten closer over the weeks. She came to find out that Dugan was a gentle giant, his tough exterior being a façade. They were on their way back to the campsite, Gabe holding the camera as Evelyn walked in the back with Bucky.
"Who will campaign door to door for America?" She sang to herself.
"Carry the flag shore to shore for America?" Bucky continued, having learnt the song from her earlier.
"From Hoboken to Spokane!" Both raised their voices, making Steve sigh and shake his head with a faint blush.
"Will you two shut up?!" Dugan asked as they had been singing it nonstop. "I can hear it in my dreams now."
"I'm sorry." Evelyn sheepishly grinned. "It's just so catchy."
