[chapter 125]

"Evelyn!" Someone called out but she felt like they were too far away for her to hear. "Evelyn, please."

With a groan, Evelyn opened her eyes and realized Steve was on his knees next to her, looking at her with tears in his eyes. He was quick to wrap his arms around her making her hiss in pain. He pulled back almost immediately to see where she was hurt but she shook her head and tightly grabbed his arms. Using each other as anchors, they both got on their feet, Steve holding his side as Evelyn grabbed her limp shoulder. They unsurely looked around, not sure which way to go when they heard Thor shout out.

"What did you do?!"

Following his voice, they found Thor standing there alone, slightly out of breath. Evelyn's hand shot up to her mouth when she saw Wanda leaning over Vision's colorless and lifeless body. She staggered back, hitting Steve who steadied her by holding her shoulder.

"Where'd he go?" Steve asked as Thor stood there quietly with a look of horror on his face. "Thor... Where'd he go?"

"Steve?" Bucky spoke up, looking at his hand with a frown.

Bucky suddenly stumbled over, dropping his gun and collapsing into ashes much to everyone's shock. Evelyn actually felt her heart stop for a second, still looking at where Bucky stood just now as Steve walked over and fell to his knees, disbelievingly touching the ground where Bucky's ashes were.

"Kumkani?!" She heard Okoye call out with a panicked voice and finally snapped out of her shock.

"Nat!" Evelyn called out with a hoarse voice as she kept herself from sobbing. "Nat, where are you?!"

"Here." Natasha coughed out and Evelyn rushed to her side.

"Come on, up." Evelyn pushed through the pain and pulled Natasha to her feet and did a onceover to make sure she wasn't suffering from any fatal injuries. "Don't you dare let me go."

"Sam?" They heard Rhodey call out but getting no answer and Evelyn assumed he was turned to dust as well. "Sam, where you at?!"

From their position on the mountain, Evelyn and Natasha could see the battlefield as Wakandan soldiers were turning to dust left and right. Evelyn felt bile rise in her throat as they helplessly watched, both women clinging onto each other, afraid to let go. Her mind finally clicked, realizing Thanos had taken the Time Stone from Doctor Strange and how Bruce said he was probably with Tony. Thinking about her sister and Tony, Evelyn finally had to let Natasha's hand go and fall on her knees to empty the contents of her stomach. Natasha patted her back as she dry heaved, not being able to stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks. As she came to a stop, Natasha put her hands under Evelyn's arms to pull her up but the latter cried out in pain.

Natasha silently asked Evelyn if she wanted her help and she nodded, neither of them being able to find their voices. Not caring it was dirty, Evelyn bit her hand and waited for Natasha to pop her shoulder back in place. Letting out a small whimper, Evelyn wiped her face and stumbled on her feet again. Both were met with a frantic looking Steve as he came running at them. He sighed seeing them and carefully hugged Evelyn.

"I thought..." He spoke slowly, taking a step back. "I thought you two had..."

They slowly walked back to Vision's body, Steve crouching next to him. He slowly turned his body over, a huge hole on his forehead with white eyes looking back at them. Evelyn looked up and did a headcount, seeing Thor, Rhodey and Bruce join them. She realized Wanda had been turned to dust as well seeing as she wouldn't have left Vision's body. Natasha too had the same thought as she squeezed Evelyn's hand harder, making sure they both weren't going anywhere.

"What is this?" Rhodey asked and Steve collapsed down, still out of breath. "What the hell is happening?"

Some of them looked at Thor for answers as he was the only one there before Thanos had escaped but the god kept quiet. Steve knew they waited for his guidance but even he couldn't muster up anything to say as they realized half the universe was fading away. He looked up from Vision's body, looking utterly defeated before opening his mouth.

"Oh, God."
