So despite struggling with an eating disorder myself, I realized I didn't make any sort of announcement about ED awareness week that was from the 22nd-28th so I figured I would share a really insightful post I saw on Instagram yesterday!

These are all super important posts because sometimes people aren't very careful with their words, and saying the wrong thing to someone with an eating disorder could potentially make things worse and even make them relapse during their recovery

These are all super important posts because sometimes people aren't very careful with their words, and saying the wrong thing to someone with an eating disorder could potentially make things worse and even make them relapse during their recovery.

Avoid any comments or "compliments" that could seem like you're targeting their weight.

If you want to compliment them you can say things like "I really like the shirt you have on today" or "You're hair looks really good today" or something along those lines.

If you notice them being very anxious about eating, offer to eat with them! This helps so so much if we have people eating with us, it gives us some reassurance that it's okay to eat.

I can't stress this one enough... DONT TALK ABOUT COUNTING CALORIES, CALORIES IN GENERAL, DIETS YOURE ON, WEIGHT, BODY SHAPE, AND SO ON AND FORTH IN FRONT OF SOMEONE WITH AN ED! It's one of the worst topics of conversation that you can have with some struggling and/or recovering from an eating disorder so DO NOT DO IT!

Always ask people struggling what ways they want you to help or support them, everyone has different ways that they would rather have people help, so don't be afraid to ask because we really appreciate it when people in our lives take the time to really care about wanting to help us.

If your friend who's struggling never accepts invitations to go out, don't take offence to this. People with eating disorders don't have a lot of energy and usually find it "safer" to stay in their house because it's easier to control their disordered behaviours that way. Despite if they always decline offers to go out, please still always invite them, it makes us feel loved, thought of, and valued. One day they'll accept your offer, just give them time!

And this last part is super important!!!
