Skylor's POV

I'd been avoiding Kai all day, and thankfully, the fact that I so far hadn't had any lectures or classes with him today was just perfect. Except that I now had one last lecture to get through; English Language. And Kai just so happened to be in this class too. Perfect.

He's entering the hall now, bag slung across his back. I quickly avert my gaze as I find a seat just as his eyes scan around the room. Crap. He's seen me. He's making his way over but thankfully the only seat beside me is taken at the last minute by a smaller girl with long pink hair, pale skin and a resting bitch face. Fun. I crane my head around to see his jaw clench angrily as he takes a seat next to a potted plant, glaring at the girl next to me. Do they know each other?

"Morning class, and welcome to English Literature. Unfortunately, Professor Martin is feeling unwell so I will be taking over today. My name is Mr Haddock, and the class is in session. We will be going back to the basics, and looking back on Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale." The sounds of him scrawling on the board got lost in the loud rustle of students reaching into their bags for a notebook and pen, laptops or textbooks.

As I scribble down the date in my notebook, a sickly sweet voice interrupts me, "I don't believe we met. I'm Seliel. And you are...?"
I lift my head and flash her a half-smile, "Skylor. Nice to meet you."
"Oh, the feeling's very mutual, Skylor."

Kai's POV

I don't know what the heck I'm feeling, or why I'm feeling like this but I'm not one for romance. Skylor has me feeling things I've never felt before. It's...nice. I have this warm funny feeling inside me, butterflies in my stomach, and I find myself just naturally grinning.
I want more of this feeling.

A spare seat is right next to Skylor and I race to grab it. I have to ask about yesterday. I have to get a proper answer.
Shit shit shit shit shit-
My hope fades as I see Seliel snag the seat beside her, smirking in victory as she blows me a kiss. I spent the rest of the lesson staring daggers at the back of the pink-haired girl's head. She's up to something. It's Seliel; she's always up to something.

Halfway through the lesson, Skylor cranes her head around and her eyes catch mine, before quickly spinning back to face the front. Seliel whispers something to her, and I watch her body rock with quiet giggles as she handed her a piece of chewing gum. They seem to be getting along relatively well. That worries me. Seliel's unpredictable. She could pull anything.

Opening up Instagram on my laptop, I find Skylor's contact and type out a message.

U free to talk?

Inhaling and exhaling sharply, I lean back in my seat, fiddling with my pen as I struggle to focus on the lesson.

Skylor's POV

Seliel seems nice. Intimidating, yes, but nice enough to possibly be friends with. Maybe? I suddenly remember she's in Kai's clique. My hand lifts to my lips, where the memories of his own lips touching mine hits me like a wrecking ball.

Accident or not, I wouldn't mind kissing him again. He smells good too, a mix of cinnamon and hair product. Not too overwhelming, but nice, nonetheless.

Speak of the devil, my laptop pops up with a notification. It's Kai.

U free to talk?

I inhale sharply, decreasing the brightness of my screen so Seliel couldn't take a glance at what I was typing.

Pay attention to the lesson.

How are you able to ignore what happened last night?

I can't.

My fingers tremble as his next message comes through.

Can we talk? Preferably now?

Later. Maybe.

He doesn't reply for the rest of the class.

The lesson ends with Mr Haddock announcing something about a 2-page assignment due for next week. Whoop-de-do.
The class clears out and it's just me.

"Can we talk now?"

And him.

I spin around to see Kai right in front of me, trapping me between his muscular frame and the seats. I was only a few inches shorter than him but his breath was warm on my face, "We can't keep ignoring this forever, Skye. You can't deny what you felt in that kiss."

"That kiss was a mistake. It was meant to aim for your cheek, but..."

"I turned at the wrong time?"

"Guess you could say that..." Kai grips my arms as he leaned closer, his scent of cinnamon clouding my senses...and my judgement.
"So...what are we, Skylor?"

"I don't know." I sigh, trying to find the words. Kai's gaze burns through me, "I know what I want us to be."

That's when I knew. More than friends, huh? If only he knew how badly I wanted it too...

"You're a playboy, Kai. Even if we did...this would end before it even started."

"This is different." He held my arms tighter, "I...I've never felt this way about someone before. That kiss...it changed things. I want a clean slate, a fresh start. And I want you by my side through this. Please?" His eyes are filled with hope, and I feel a smile tug at the corners of my mouth which I quickly mask.

"I...I want to. I want this. I want this so bad. But...it's not gonna end well."

"Let's just focus on the moment in front of us rather than what's to come. When we went for dinner, if that's what dating you is like, then I'm all in, Skylor Chen. The question is...are you?"

I think. Dinner with Kai made me see him in a whole different light. There's a certain beauty in him, and curiosity wants me to find out more about this new side. Will it end well? Will it not? That's for time to tell. At this moment I have nothing to lose. Why not give fate a try?

"I'm all in too," My voice is barely a whisper, my eyes looking right at him finally.

Kai's grin could light up a thousand and a million rooms as he suddenly ducks down and captures my lips with his.
The kiss is slow and sensual, passionate and fiery, and ignites a spark within me. Kai's hands trail down to my waist as my arms snake around his neck, pulling him closer. His tongue slips past my lips, exploring my mouth as he backs me up against the seats.

I suddenly push him away, heaving over to catch my breath. Kai flashes me a grin, equally breathless, "Wow. I wasn't expecting a kiss like that from you."
A smirk pulls at my face, "Well, I'm full of surprises aren't I?"

He leans closer, whispering into my ear, "Then I sure am in for a ride, aren't I?" His voice is low and husky, and it sends chills down my spine.

Looks like I'm in for a ride too, huh?
