Song is Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. I have been into Supernatural a bit lately, so this song is constantly stuck in my head. I have been wanting to write a song-related imagine, but it was hard to come up with anything interesting. I am still taking requests!!! Please please please request!!! My goal is to finish this book before the end of the semester, and I still have a ways to go. Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy this!!
No One's POV
Soundwave liked music. This often came as a surprise to those who knew him (if they ever found out), but it was no less true. He liked most kinds of music, but his favorites were classical and pop. He always found music soothing to listen to, and it helped him tune out Starscream's annoying voice while he worked. So, naturally, when he got a notification that his favorite pop artist, Y/F/N Y/L/N, was performing the following evening, he had to investigate. He discreetly looked up the information about the concert, and found (to his delight) that she was performing in a city where there had been recent Autobot activity. This meant that no one would question why he wanted to go check it out. Megaton, of course, knew about his enjoyment of music, but the rest of the ship didn't, and he wanted to keep it that way. Soundwave hadn't had the chance to go to one of Y/N's concerts since she rarely performed, and so was rather apprehensive as he went to ask Megatron if he could have the following night off. It would come as a surprise, no doubt, given that he had never asked for a night off before, but he doubted that Megatron would refuse. He was, after all, his most loyal servant. Soundwave immediately felt a headache coming on at the sound of Starscream's whining as he approached the throne room. Soundwave went inside to find Starscream once again trying to avoid a punishment. He had probably made another stupid mistake. Again. Feeling little pity for the other flyer, Soundwave made his way to the throne where he stood, waiting patiently to he acknowledged. After Starscream had received his fair share of injures, the simpering mech fled the throne room at Megatron's demand.
"Ah, Soundwave! To what do I owe the pleasure, my old friend?" Megatron greeted. Soundwave was well aware that he was the only one with the title of "Megatron's old friend." He gave a quick bow, and made his request.
"Y/F/N Y/L/N...is performing...tomorrow night...Soundwave...humble request...to attend..." he drew his speech from multiple recordings as usual. Megatron had a surprised look on his face for a brief moment.
"Well, I was most certainly not expecting this request. However, I will allow you attend. You have been a faithful servant to me for far too long for me to deny this of you. However, I wish to know of your cover. I can assume that you do not want the rest of the ship knowing about this?" Megatron responded. Soundwave pulled up the diagram showing the recent Autobot activity. Megatron grinned.
"That will work perfectly in your favor, Soundwave! Well done. You are dismissed to resume your current duties."
Soundwave bowed again and left.
For the next twenty four hours, Soundwave was in a good mood. He was looking forward to the concert. Thankfully, he had the foresight to install a holoform some time ago, so he would blend in just fine. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Soundwave made his way to the deck of the ship where he jumped, transformed, and flew towards his destination. Once he got there, he found a deserted building to hide his altmode in, turned on his holoform, and began the walk to the performance building being used. There was an incredibly large crowd, and Soundwave was thankful that he had been able to procure a ticket. Quickly finding his seat, he waited impatiently for the show to begin. However, he seriously began to wonder if Fate had a cruel sense of humor. For, lo and behold, the Autobot pets took their seats. Right in front of him. Soundwave was thankful that it seemed as though no Autobot holoforms were present. Although it was doubtful that the humans would recognize him, the other holoforms probably would. The Autobots had probably thought that the Decepticons would never waste their time investigating a place and event like this. And, he mused, they were mostly right. He wondered what he should do. Should he wait to call for backup until after the end of the show? Should he even call at all? He really didn't want to, as that would ruin the one time that he would get a break. Soundwave was distracted from his line of thought by the sound of the concert beginning. The Autobots never crossed his mind for the entire evening. Her performance was just that spectacular. Soundwave was delighted when the second song that she sang was his personal favorite. He sang the lines along with her in his head. The end, however, was something that he was particularly looking forward to. You see, when you buy your ticket, you are given a list of ten songs, and asked to choose one for her to perform at the end. They were all popular songs that were performed by other artists. Soundwave only knew one of them, which was Bartender by Lady Antebellum, and that was the one he chose, although some of the other titles sounded interesting as well. (I personally think it would be really cool if someone did this!)
Before he knew it, the concert was nearly at an end. The crowd was waiting in anticipation for the song that had the most votes.
"Alright! Now, thank you, all of you, for making my night so spectacular!" she began. Soundwave smiled at that.
"Now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the song selection! Let's see what I will be performing tonight as a special treat!"
This was met with loud cheers and applause. Y/N turned towards one of her fellow performers, and he handed her a slip of paper. She smiled as she read it.
"A little secret, this song is actually my favorite on the list! So, let's give it up for Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas as the winner!!"
The crowd was deafening as she read the name. Soundwave was curious about this song. It had caught his eye, but he had never heard it before. Still, he knew that it would be good, because she was singing it. After double-checking his recorder (there was no way he wasn't recording this), he waited with baited breath along with the crowd.
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
That did it for Soundwave. It was amazing. She was amazing. Soundwave was definitely looking this song up when he returned to the ship.
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
The words themselves cut into him deeply. He felt as though they were speaking directly to him.
Now your life's no longer empty
But surely heaven waits for you
Listening to her sing about keeping on going until you're done made him think about Megatron's vision for Cybertron, and how hard he has been working to achieve it. He also thought about how wayward could apply to how they were in exile. It was perfect...
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Soundwave wanted to stay in the moment forever, but the song ended all too soon. And with it, the concert. At this moment, Soundwave's glanced down, and remembered the humans. No, he decided, he would let them go tonight. The night was too perfect, and he refused to let their appearance spoil it.
After that night, Soundwave knew beyond a doubt that Y/F/N Y/L/N was the most perfect human on Earth. That recording of her singing that song played on repeat every night when he went to get some rest. There was no doubt in his mind that her song had affected him even deeper than he realized.
Carry on my wayward son...
Well! I hope y'all enjoyed this little imagine! Please keep requesting! I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point, and I have a few more to go!
