Song is Castle of Glass by LINKIN Park. Hope y'all enjoy this! I'm gonna start updating Light In My Darkness right after this one, I promise! I just needed to get this story out of my head and on the page. Anyways, on to the story! ⚠️ Warning! There are some dark themes in this story!
Anna's POV
It was a quiet Saturday in a small town in Texas. There was a slight drizzle of rain that echoed my mood as I knelt in the cemetery, a bouquet of my twin Alex's favorites in my hands. He'd always loved flowers, which always made me tease him that he was Samwise from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We had always been close, until that horrible, tragic day...
"Hey Alex," I sniffled, pressing my forehead against the gravestone. "I brought your favorites today. I hope you like them." I sighed, wishing he was here to make a sarcastic remark about how stupid it was talking to something that couldn't hear me, but the thought that he wasn't here to do that just made me sob harder.
I sat there for hours, just talking about everything going on lately since he left. Mom and dad were getting divorced. They had always been fighting after he died, and couldn't stand to see each other anymore. Not only that, but both the bullying and the pity in school was getting worse. I honestly didn't know which one I hated more. I talked about school in general, my grades on my papers and such. I talked about things I had seen that he would have liked. "I really miss you Alex," I said. "Things aren't the same when my other half, my twin, isn't here by my side driving me nuts." I sobbed, clutching the gravestone like a lifeline.
All the while not realizing the unexpected audience I had who had stumbled upon me during a mission to search for Energon, and was now watching me with something akin to understanding in his ruby optics.
Dreadwing's POV
When I went out to search for signs of Energon, I did not expect to find a human girl. She was kneeling in front of an oddly shaped rock sticking out of the ground. I noticed that there were a lot of other ones in this area. Quick research showed that this was a cemetery, a place where humans buried their dead loved ones. And based on that finding, this human must be talking to a dead loved one. But why? It's not like they could hear her, could they? I was as quiet as I could be as I listened to her. She was talking in a surprisingly informal tone, as if they were right there next to her.
No Ones POV
"I really miss you, Alex," she said. "Things just aren't the same when my other half, my twin, isn't there by my side driving me nuts." Here, she sobbed quietly, hugging the stone tightly. Dreadwing suddenly understood her a little better, and let out a deep sigh. He felt his spark keen as he thought of his own brother, Skyquake. A gasp shook him out of his thoughts, and he looked back to the human, only to find her staring back at him in shock.
Scrap, he thought. They stared at each other for almost a minute, neither moving a muscle or piston. Dreadwing decided to break the tense silence. He slowly moved to kneel on one knee to see her better.
"You need not fear me, human, my mission is not to harm you," he said. It wasn't much assurance, he supposed, but it was better than nothing. That snapped her out of it, and she backed away from him, chest heaving.
"What-how-who-" she seemed to be asking a million questions at once. Dreadwing picked up the gist of what she wanted to know.
"My designation is Dreadwing, human. I am merely searching for Energon, the fuel my kind uses. I come from the planet Cybertron. A Great War on my planet has destroyed it, causing us to seek refuge on your world," he explained. She had calmed down slightly, and ran a hand through her hair.
"My name is Anna. I was just visiting my twin brother's grave, but I guess I'll leave you be," she said, clearly not wanting to make the giant in front of her angry with her presence. Dreadwing shook his head.
"You may stay if you wish. Although, if you don't mind me requesting, what happened to your twin?" He asked.
She shuffled on her feet, clearly uncomfortable, but did not outright refuse him.
"He-we were at the small grocery store just outside of town. A man came in with a gun, and took the place hostage. My brother tried to distract the gunman so someone could call the cops, but the man shot him once he found out what he was doing. He saved everyone in there," she said, barely keeping her composure. Dreadwing acknowledged her story. "I am very sorry. I too, lost my twin brother. He was battling two more of my kind, and he lost his life to them," he said. He couldn't help but clench his fists in anger at the thought of the Autobots. She lowered her head.
"I am sorry for your loss," she said quietly. They each stood there for a moment, silently grieving for their loved one that would never come back. Soon, Anna tentatively broke the silence with a question, and they just stood there and talked quietly. After a few minutes, Dreadwing gave a grumble of annoyance.
"I'm afraid I must leave you now, before my leader starts wondering what's taking me," he said. Anna nodded, a bit reluctant to see one of the few who truly understood her pain go. They said their goodbyes, and Dreadwing began to slowly walk away. Suddenly, he stopped, and turned back to her.
"Will you be here next "Saturday"?" He asked. She smiled at him.
"Definitely," she said. After all, it really did feel good to talk to someone who knew what she was going through. She also felt he was a good bot to just talk to about him. Maybe everything didn't have to be so bleak after all.
***time skip***
Dreadwing came back week after week for almost two months. The pair would sit and talk about anything and everything in the calm and privacy of the cemetery. They were always quiet though, so as not to disturb the place of rest for so many. One day, an agitated Dreadwing told her of what one of his higher officers had done to his brother. He told her about his plan for revenge, after which he would go neutral. She asked him to be careful, which he said he would be. She had also been considering running away with him. He was now her best friend, and ever since her parents' divorce, she never saw her father, and it seemed like her mom had forgotten she even existed. She had turned to drinking, and was often gone for days on end. One day, she waited for Dreadwing at their usual spot, packed and ready to leave. She waited for hours, but he never showed. When she stumbled upon the Autobots years later, she learned he had been killed when he had tried to get revenge for what had been done to his brother. The news broke her. She ran away from home, and vanished. A month later, they found her body. It appeared that she had drowned herself in her misery.
There was only a note in her pocket, which said, "I cannot do this anymore. I must see them again. The only ones who ever cared about me, loved me. Goodbye, Misery."
They buried her right next to her twin. Her mother deteriorated further, later having to be moved to a mental asylum. Her father was in jail for drunken assault. The Autobots were grieved when they heard about what happened to her.
Anna's POV
I woke up to a bright light. I thought I heard a very familiar voice laughing. Then, I felt someone shake my shoulder. I pulled the covers over my head, wanting to go back to sleep. The hands stopped for a moment, and I sighed in relief, relaxing.
"GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!" a voice yelled in my ear, causing me to yelp and fall off of my bed. I looked up to see my brother laughing at me.
"Alex," I huffed, but couldn't stay angry at him. Not after the crazy dream I had just had. Giant robots from outer space indeed, I thought. There's no way that's real. There was no way a mech named Dreadwing just so happened to stumble across me as I grieved for a brother who was very much alive and well.
"Hey sis, mom wants us to stop by the store on our way home after school, by the way," Alex called to me. I tried not to think that this was how my nightmare stared.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," I said in response to my brother's pestering at me to hurry up. The two of us ran out the door to get to school, as happy as can be.
***time skip to afternoon at the store***
BANG! BANG!
"ALEX!!"

"Relax sis. I just stubbed my toe. Twice."

Neither of them saw the ruby-eyed man who was staring at the girl in confusion, wondering why he recognized her from a strange dream he had had the night before about a cemetery...

I tricked y'all! Just to make things clear, most of this was a dream. Alex didn't die, and she never met Dreadwing. I hope y'all enjoyed reading this!
