Home. Home is a place where you feel comfortable. Where someone is there for you and cares about you. Where you have enough to eat and where it's clean.
Or it's a trailer on Riverdale's southside. Where you spend as little time as possible. Where your father is once again sitting drunk on the couch and the unemployment benefits are actually no longer enough to pay for everything.
And here I am now, in my rich-looking clothes, without anything to eat in the fridge. I haven't gone shopping yet and my father is sleeping off his intoxication on the couch. Like every morning. I quietly snuck out and started my mum's old motorcycle. Every morning I drive past the group of Southside Serpents who are still or again in front of the White Wyrm and who are on their way to school. To the Southside High. If a few things had turned out differently in my life, I would be one of them now.
When I got to Riverdale High, I parked the motorcycle in one of the parking spaces and took off my helmet. With my school bag in my right hand and a sandwich of Pops in my left hand, I saw my best friend standing in front of the school. "Ave, you're finally here! I'm sorry that you couldn't sleep at mine yesterday, my parents are still pretty angry about the thing at the memorial. Why are you so late anyways?" "It is not your fault that I couldn't sleep at yours, I slowly know your parents. I was just looking for a textbook from me. But we should go, we have the Dragon and she doesn't like me anyway." Cheryl grinned at my last sentence and then dragged me into school.
For the break, Cheryl and I sat outside on a bench, she helped me with the new math topic. "Oh, my god!" Cheryl looked angry on her cell phone. "Tina wrote me that Polly Cooper escaped from an institution the night the car burned. We have to go to the police station immediately, my mum is there anyway." I picked up my things, as did Cheryl. Together we made our way towards the parking lot. "We'll meet there Cher, I have to take my motorcycle with me." I didn't want to leave her alone, but I still have to go shopping after school so I need it. "It's okay Ave, I will meet you there!"
I waited in the guard's parking lot for Cheryl, who came around the corner two minutes later in her car. We entered the station together when we saw Cheryl's mum and Sheriff Keller talking. "Speaking of breaks. What's a big one worth to you, Mother? Letting me be a River Vixen again?" Cheryl said to her mother as we walked towards her. "What on earth are you talking about, Cheryl?" "I have information which both of you, would find interesting vis-a-vis my brother's case. But first, the Vixens are mine. And I want your permission to reclaim them." "Good Lord. Fine." I squeezed her hand knowing how much the River Vixen mean to her. "So Ginger texted me while I was outside. It seems that crazy bitch Polly Cooper escaped from some loony bin the same night Jason's car was torched. Let me do the math for you. Polly escaping plus Polly torching the car equals she's Jason's killer. Covering her tracks, trying to go underground like the vicious, cold-hearted murdering mean girl that she is. Oh, and I just tweeted this out to all of my minions, so the pressure's on, Sheriff Keller. "
Before we went looking for Polly, I made my way home. On the way I went grocery shopping. It was a little shop on the Southside where a lot of the kids hang out. From a distance I saw Joaquin and Toni standing in front of it with a few others. I used to be good friends with Toni, and Joaquin was like a brother before my parents sent me to Riverdale High and I adapted.
I put the bags in the compartment and then hurried home. My father did not sit in his armchair as usual, he was taking a shower. I packed the food items on the shelf and in the refrigerator, then I made my way to my room. I put on other shoes and a thicker jacket before my dad could get out of the shower.
I drove to the meeting point on my motorcycle. Cheryl came right up to me and gave me a hug. I joined the others with her. "Okay, everyone, please listen. If Polly tried to get out of town, she'd have to come through the woods here. So let's go!" After Sheriff Keller's speech, we set off. As in a show, we met the other search party and faced each other. "Alice Cooper. Where is she? Where's Polly?" "You think if I knew that I would be out here with the mosquitoes?" Alice shot back. "Face facts, Mommy Dearest, Polly killed Jason." Cheryl said. "She escaped from the asylum once. Who's to say she didn't before? Say, the day Jason got murdered." Clifford explained. "The noose is tightening around your murdering daughter's neck. I know it, Sheriff Keller knows it-" Keller quickly interrupted her. "Hold on, now." But Penelope just kept talking. "And I promise you, when we find her and we will find her, the entire town of Riverdale will know too." They both stared at each other until we parted again and continued searching. Despite the sheriff's dogs, we hadn't found anything.
