Pinyin: Mo Du

Author: Priest

Genre: Crime Drama, Psychological Thriller, Yaoi

Pairing: Luo Wenzhou (gong)/ Fei Du (shou)

Plot:

Luo Wenzhou is an openly gay police chief who is pining for his best friend/coworker Tao Ran (who is straight btw). His rival was Fei Du, a bisexual second generation wastrel who Luo Wenzhou and Tao Ran met when they solved his mother's suicide many years ago. Fei Du's father is in comatose due to a car accident, so he is basically the CEO of their company now at the age of 22. The two become entangled on a murder case that turned into a bigger, convoluted plot revolving corrupt officials, syndicates, and a mysterious audiobook app that seems to be prophesizing the cases before they happen.

Read if you like:

- criminal genius shou who is skilled in flirting x an equally skillful, quick-witted gong

- References to classic novels and literature

- cunning, devilishly handsome mastermind types with glasses

- mindblowing, fucked-up crimes and criminals

- exploration of trauma and dark childhood themes

Warning! Don't read if you:

- are easily triggered by themes like child abuse, child prostitution, mass bullying, PTSD and suicide

- can't handle disturbing crimes

- dislike big age gaps (7 years to be exact)

- Even if there is not much NSFW between the couple, this is not for the faint of heart due to the other mature themes besides the yaoi.

This is my favorite danmei so far. I love Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du's relationship, but CAN I HAVE A BOYFRIEND LIKE FEI DU, PLEASE?

He is so smart! As expected from Priest's big brain. And again, their flirting and banter and shamelessness is beyond god tier. I really love couples who are equal matches in terms of wittiness, the way they compete with each other on who's the more glib tounged is just my jam.

Aside from this, they are also very supportive of each other's pain! The moments when Luo Wenzhou comforts Fei Du from his trauma makes me softer than cotton candy. And their progression from Fei Du's one sided hate on Luo Wenzhou to realizing the goodness of each other and becoming such a mutually beneficial couple waters my crops and made my day.

I love the cases. They're so dark and vile and the coming together of the plots are so good and satisfying. It was a deadly rollercoaster, I felt all emotions possible on Earth when reading this book. There's so many side characters that I like, but Lu Jia takes the cake. (Am I the only one who ships Lu Jia and Zhou Huajin? Just me? Okay.)

The extras gave me a very profound feeling, especially when they buried Fei Du's dad. The pain he went through as a child is no joke. I feel happy that he met someone like Luo Wenzhou who will keep him company and remind him that he doesn't have to suffer alone, that he doesn't have to always take matters with his own hands and make himself believe he's a bad guy. And like Guardian, there's another cute cat! Comrade Luo Yiguo must be Da Qing's long lost half brother from the feline side of the family, they're really the pesky troublemakers that we need!

9. 8/10, I'm so excited for the donghua adaptation. The art style looks really good. I just wonder how many episodes there will be since a lot happened, I wish it'll be at least 2 seasons. Share your own thoughts about Mo Du in the comments!
