Mal cracked open her eye, flinching slightly as something warm and wet dripped over her eyelash. She struggled to sit up, her arms burning. Her head bobbed down as she finally sat up, her free hand coming up and holding her head still.

She pulled her hand back to look at it with blurry vision, bile burning at her throat as blood-stained her glove and fingers. "wha-" she stuttered, slowly looking around, eyes widening as the only thing she could see was smoke and darkness "what happened" she grit her teeth as she stood on wobbly legs, slowly turning in place to look at the destruction of the area "what-who did this?"

"do you think you're a hero Mal?~" a soft whispery voice echoed around her, a green glow slowly appearing from the rising smoke in front of her. "is that what this was all about?"

Mal glared as Audrey stepped out from the smoke, her eyes glowing, her expression calm as ever "what did you do?" Mal yelled, cursing as her throat burned and she bent over, hacking into her blood-covered hand.

"why I discovered something~...if I can't have Auradon...no one can." Audrey hummed, slowly walking around Mal, circling her like a vulture and its prey. "I knew that you were too possessive of your home, of Ben, of your friends. Your pride would get in the way of letting those who could help you win, help you. You see Mal, that's what's wrong with you" Audrey stopped just in Mal's peripheral vision, looking deep into the dragon's eye "you think you're the greatest thing to ever grace the world, you think you're special, that your all-powerful, that you can do no wrong...well I'm sorry Mal" Audrey's calm smile turned cruel as the scepter glowed a bright green. "you're hardly more than a worm under the ground~"

Mal hunched over and threw up, as before her laid the crumbled statues of her friends, Evie's saddened face, an expression she had caused, broken in pieces at her feet.

"let me tell you a story Mal, of what happens to heroes like you" Audrey stepped closer, the staff tapping just in front of Jays cracked an eye. "a story of a Man called Theseus. His city was in danger, and he sent himself forward into enemy lines, he slayed the minotaur! And saved his city!...do you know what they did to him, Mal?" Mal ripped her eyes away from Carlos and glared up at Audrey, who just continued to calmly smile at her. "they exiled him, he died in disgrace. Despised by his people. That's what happens to heroes Mal." Mal's brows furrowed in confusion "the Greeks know the score, but if you want to be a hero Mal? That's fine." She stepped over Ben's arm and back towards the smoke, where the ruins of Auradon preps dorms could just be seen. "that's fine" the scepter glowed again, this time the same color as Audrey's eyes, illuminating the dark area.

Mal slowly stood, uncurling her clenched hand and glaring down at the ember that had been split in two, it was useless now.
"you want to be a hero Mal?" she looked up, eyes widening in terror as two large shadows slowly rose within the smoke. Audrey's gleeful expression clear as the scepter lit her face.

"THEN YOU'LL DIE LIKE ONE!"

Mal screamed as two sets of red eyes opened within the smoke, the shadows lunging at her.

And everything went black.

Uma curled her arms around Harry's arm. Celia, Dizzy, and the twins sleeping in her's and Harry's lap. Jane and Doug curled up next to Gil. She glanced up, letting out a harsh breath as she looked at the smokey ruins of Auradon.

She had no time to save anyone else, it was just her, her boys, the kids, Jane, and Doug now. Audrey had ignored them as Uma dove into the sea with them and sped off, Uma was apparently no interest of Audrey's, and did not doubt that Uma wouldn't come back for anyone else...she wouldn't have the time.

She glanced towards the isle, watching as the barrier flickered out, and the clouds above turn black. "we need to leave" Uma croaked, pulling Dizzy out of her lap and handing her to Gil, the larger boy gently taking her and cradling her head in his arm. Celia jumped awake, turning to look at Uma "it's only a matter of time before the entire content is gone."

"Is this really it?" Jane croaked, fingers clenching around her mother's wand "did we really lose?" Harry stood with Sterling on his right hip, and looked directly at Jane with harsh yet empathetic eyes.

"yes...we did...but we need ta' leave now if we ha've any chance of survival...Doug carry Skipper fer meh" Doug wiped his face of ash and tears and nodded, standing up and walking over to the limp body of the Smee twin, pulling him off the ground and onto his back "let's go, I'm sure there's a ship somewhere we can take ta get out of here" he turned, his ripped coat whipping behind him. Uma numbly followed after him, reaching forward and grabbing into his free hand, clenching it tightly.

He squeezed back, and continued to look forward.

"where are we going to go?" Jane whimpered, stumbling into Gil as she hugged her self "what are we going to do?"

"there's a kingdom nearby but far away enough where we wouldn't even see the smoke" Uma muttered, turning her head towards Jane slightly "it should be safe from all of this" Jane gave a small nod, looking down at her shoes.

"This was the worst birthday ever" Jane sobbed, covering her mouth. Doug unwound one of his arms from Skipper's legs and wrapped it around Jane's shoulders.

"I'm sorry Jane" he murmured, looking back at Harry and Uma, who silently walked into the pitch-black forest. "but tomorrow is a new day"

The last few remaining descendants disappeared into the dark forest, heading out for the unknown.

As Auradon and the isle burned to ashes.
