I enjoyed being with Jasper, he was kind and gentle, though despite the calm blanket I always felt around him I could not help the expectation that he will suddenly snap and beat me like my parents. It was peaceful to be able to gaze out the window, we had not moved since we first sat on his bed hours ago, I was safe with him but I knew about the danger I would be in when I got home but it was being safely nestled in Jaspers arms that gave me an impulse that made me never want to leave.  It was his soft voice that broke me free from my distressing thoughts "I want you to meet my father"

I slipped my hand carefully into his soft ones, he lead me back to the kitchen where Esme was standing but she was not alone she was held securely in the porcelain arms of a man with neatly combed platinum blond hair, light topaz eyes and his smile was kind the type I had seen fathers do when playing in the park or in one of the many books I have read "Lilith this is my father, Carlisle"

"Good evening Lilith how are you" he had a knowing gleam in his eyes as they locked on to the newly forming brews on my jaw

"Hello Dr Cullen, I'm fine thank you" I suddenly became aware of the knifing pain in my back as the numbing calm lifted and pain from last night's beating filled my whole body.

"Lilith is everything alright" Dr Cullen stepped towards me as stumbled back the pain suddenly too much for me to keep my head up, Jasper carefully cradled my arm allowing me to stable myself

My eyes quickly darted around the room as if following an invisible fly as I racked my brain searching for an excuse "I-um well I tripped" I answered quickly I knew that I was blowing my opportunity to lie to them but I was doing my best "down the stairs... yesterday" Dr Cullen opened his mouth to speak his face drawn in an unbelieving frown "I'm fine though" I mentally scolded myself why did that lie have to sound so stupid I could ruin everything

"If you would like, I can give you a quick once over just to make sure you are alright as you might feel fine now but something could still be wrong" he persuaded as I slowly felt the pain drip away

I was about to decline as a fresh wake of calm washed over me compelling me to accept, I nodded slightly as I followed him into his office, Jasper had his arm carefully wrapped around my waist avoiding all my injuries as he guided me through the house following his father, though it made me think that just possibly he was stopping me from running away.
