a/n: **PLEASE READ** before i start this chapter, i would like to kindly ask people to stop asking me to update so often. i understand if it's been weeks since i last posted, but messaging me only hours after i posted asking me to update again is a bit ridiculous to me. like i said in the last chapter, i'm posting these chapters as i write them, i don't have them pre-written. these chapters do take a bit of time for me to write and edit and i do have an actual life and school i am busy with. i have explained to multiple people why i'm not updating every day/more often in my messages and in my chapters too. and these past couple of chapters have been posted a only a few days apart, which is not what i planned when i posted this story. this story unfortunately is only going to be quite a few chapters shorter than simply the best, so i intended to spread the chapters out. if you aren't following me or just started following me, you probably haven't seen this, but a little bit ago i asked if y'all would rather wait till i finished writing this book to post it, then y'all would have more consistent updates. or if you guys wanted me to post the chapters as i wrote them, but have an inconsistent posting schedule. people responded and messaged me to post as i wrote, so that's what i'm doing. so i did warn you guys that the posting would be inconsistent. thank you so much for understanding!! also this will be a two part chapter so get ready!! i'm sorry this was so long, but happy reading!!<3

——

i left my window open to let the cool night air drift into my cabin. my blankets were tucked just under my chin and dreams peacefully filled my thoughts. for the first time since i got here i was sleeping well, no tears, nightmares, no distant roars of lions jolting me awake. i had finally gotten used to the thin mattress of my twin bed and the lack of blankets. i wasn't too warm or too cold, i wasn't sore from training, everything was just right.

a strange siren brought me out of my peaceful state. thinking it was my alarm clock, i reluctantly peeked one eye open, checking the time.

1:12 A.M.

it wasn't my alarm clock making the noise, but my groggy brain couldn't comprehend what was. i stood up, half asleep, and pulled back the curtain to the window beside my front door. i saw Bindi and Chandler rush out of their cabin followed my Terri, then Wes.

the poachers!

my mind suddenly alert, i searched around my room for my camo uniform. i rushed to dig through my drawers to find a set. when i did, i jumped to get it on, leaving on the pajama shorts and tank top i slept in. i hadn't even buttoned up my uniform jacket when i grabbed my "go bag" and ran out the door. i saw Wes coming out of Bindi and Chandlers cabin, holding their bags that they forgot.

"what do you need me to do?" i stood on my porch, buttoning up my jacket.

"get Robert, i don't think he's up yet." i nodded.

the large stadium-like lights that lit up the camp at night were going to be turned off soon, in order to hide from the poachers. i jumped off my porch, slinging my backpack over my shoulder. Roberts cabin was next to mine, so i got there quickly. i burst through the door, adrenaline coursing through my veins.

sure enough Robert was still sound asleep.

"Robert!" i harshly whispered.

nothing.

"Robert." i said, this time in my normal voice.
