Everything had worked out perfectly. She looked so beautiful in the sun. I took a deep breath and knelt down, bearing a ring.

"Annie, will you marry me?" The stream of tears down her face started again as she covered her mouth. She started laughing, a genuine one.

"What kind of a question is that? Of course I will!" A wave of relief washed over me. She pulled me into a hug.

She cried into my suit, and I held her head close to me. "You're," she said in between sobs, "the only one I want to be with for the rest of my life, Armin."

I let out a deep exhale. "I can't wait to have that." Her sobs pained me. They were full of all of the built-up emotions she never told to anyone but me. "I don't ever want you to be in pain," I whispered, placing a kiss on the top of her head. I slid the ring onto her finger.

I felt a lump form in my throat. "And we-" I felt a crack in my voice. "-we can grow up alongside each other. And you can be yourself." A hot tear stung my face.

I pulled her closer. "And I-" I sniffled. "These past years have been the best ones of my life. You completed me."

"Armin," she went back to whispering, "you're the only reason I'm still alive."
