tonight was different.
tonight you breathed molten love
onto my skin, into my pores, into my core.
tonight you waited at my beck and call.
tonight you strummed me gently
like a nylon guitar, warm and soft
and colouring the air tangerine. and
tonight you didn't just
flee into the cab without
a second look.
you kissed me, again.
then to my surprise,
embraced me.
your arms wound around my ribcage,
our hearts connected and beating as one. and
you held me there,
before you leapt and glided off
with all your possessions, including
my heart, now fused with yours.
i felt my body pulled to
yours as you trotted away,
the cavity in my chest
magnetised to the fullness of yours.
what sleight of hand had you used
to steal my heart in that second
our chests touched?
tonight you were different
and for noble reason or not
i felt something.
