III: First Mission

As Wendy grew more comfortable in Cait Shelter she began getting to know everyone in the village, doing chores, and even healing the wounded. Several months after joining Cait Shelter she found a large egg with pink flame-like markings on it and after roughly a week it hatched out a white cat-like creature she names Carla that sprouted wings immiedietly after hatching. After around three years in Cait, Shelter Wendy decided to take on a relatively simple job of helping a couple of travel back to their hometown

"Are you sure about this, child?"Carla asked as she helped Wendy pack several clothes and supplies

"Yeah I'm sure besides Carla it's really easy and I can help with my healing magic," Wendy said smiling at her best friend

"If you say so child but make no mistake I am going with you," she said smiling gently

"Really? Oh thank you Carla" Wendy said smiling

"Ah so you are already prepared," Roubal said smiling at her

"Yes we'll be leaving later this afternoon," Wendy said smiling at the old master

"Well be careful and do try to come back with no injuries whatsoever," he said before leaving their little house

Soon enough Wendy and Carla arrived in Iris town and met the two people who they were supposed to escort. A tall, muscular man, with blond, slicked-back hair and blue eyes wearing a white buttoned-up shirt, black pants, and combat boots along with a heavily pregnant woman her eyes are purple and her hair is more of a golden blonde compared to her husband's wearing a long flowy white sundress, leather sandals and glasses

"Hello you must be Wendy Marvell and Carla from Cait Shelter," the woman said trying to stand up before her husband helped her

"My name is Ludwig Williams and this is my wife Marietta Williams, are you truly capable of healing magic?" he asked

"Yes I am sir," Wendy said nervously making Marietta smile gently at her

"Well thank you for your assistance Wendy," she said before giving the young girl a hug making Wendy blush

"Well then if we leave now we can reach Magnolia Town by nightfall" the man Ludwig said smiling at the scene "And darling I think you should let her go she looks like she may faint"

"Aww but Ludwig look at how cute she is," the pregnant woman said pouting

"Perhaps we should head to the train station now," Carla said in her usual stern tone but secretly she found herself amused

"Well then let's go then," Ludwig said as his wife let go of the small bluenette

As they boarded the train Wendy did a preliminary check-up on Marietta and her baby, who were thankfully perfectly healthy much to Ludwig's relief. As the train made its way to Magnolia Town Ludwig and Marietta ended up telling Wendy and Carla all about themselves. Ludwig was once a part of the Cherry Blossom Holy Knight Squadron that served under the king and Marietta was a Celestial Spirit Mage who was once a part of the Fairy Tail guild before leaving to take care of her father's hotel in Crocus

"Attention, passengers: this is your conductor speaking. The train is being delayed due to a few Vulcans but not to worry several Fairy Tail wizards are on their way"

"Oh dear," Marietta said her eyes wide and her face contorted in pain

"Marietta-san?" Wendy asked before she used her healing magic to check on her "Oh dear this is not good"

"What's wrong? " Ludwig asked worriedly

"Her water broke I don't think the baby can wait until we get to Magnolia," Wendy said before she leads Marietta to lay on the floor "Carla can you please ask the conductor if there is a doctor on board?"

"Of course child," Carla said trusting Wendy to take care of the situation before flying out of the train cabin "Wendy may not be a fighter but she is a protege when it comes to healing if it comes to it I know she has a decent chance of delivering the baby after all whenever she ends up assisting an animal give birth it always turns out fine but, still there is a rather large difference between helping animals give birth and helping a human give birth"

"Please just try and stay calm Marietta-san," Wendy said as she positioned herself between Marietta's spread legs as Ludwig held his wife's hand trying to comfort her as a contraction hit her as they waited for the doctor or the baby whichever came first

Unfortunately, the train did not have a Doctor, Healer, or even a Midwife on board thus Wendy had to assist Marietta, the delivery was approximately 8 hours of painful labor before Marietta finally held her baby girl after waiting nine months to meet her while Ludwig held them both as Wendy gave the newborn baby a check-up using her magic

"Wonderful work child" Carla praised as she observed the family

"Yeah kid" the conductor agreed since he came over to observe just in case he could help in any way before he left, he had an announcement to make

"Thank you so much, Wendy," Marietta said looking utterly tired but her smile was so bright

"Yes thank you so much, Wendy," Ludwig said smiling at the young slayer

"Attention passengers: the Fairy Tail mages have dealt with the Vulcan problem and we are pleased to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Williams on the successful birth of their daughter and to thank the young mage Wendy Marvell for assisting the birth" the conductor announced before they all heard clapping and cheering

"We should be in Magnolia in an hour," Carla said smiling

Just as Carla said they had arrived in Magnolia Town an hour after the train continued when they arrived in town an elderly couple was waiting for them later being revealed as Marietta's parents

"Oh thank you so much, dear," Francine Marietta's mother said as she was given the chance to hold her granddaughter

"You're welcome ma'am," Wendy said shyly making the elderly couple coo at how cute she was being

"As a thank you, you may stay in our home for the night" Arthur Francine's husband and Marietta's father

"Oh um p-please no, w-we can just find a hotel or inn," Wendy said shyly "I-I couldn't impose"

"Oh dear, no we insist," Marietta said smiling at the girl who helped her and her baby

"Oh um o-of course, uh t-thank you," Wendy said bowing to them

"We should be the one thanking you," Ludwig said smiling at the girl

The next day before Wendy and Carla had to leave for their guild, the family were there to send them off at the train station

"Wendy I would like to give you these" Marietta said before giving Wendy a pouch with sixteen keys twelve keys that looked like they were made of jade and five silver keys "These are my spirits I want you to have them. I am no longer a mage and I don't want them to make them feel neglected I know you'll be an amazing mage that they'll love"

"I-um yes I'll do my best," Wendy said bowing as she held the keys close

"And here's your reward I added a thousand jewels and a pair of 120x gale-force glasses as a thank you for your being my wife's midwife," Ludwig said smiling gratefully at the young girl

"Wow thank you but you really shouldn't have," Wendy said shyly

"I insist," he said before the train whistle sounded

"Do visit sometime dear" Francine said smiling

"We will," Wendy said smiling back

"Child we should go now," Carla said before she and Wendy stepped onto the train before they waved goodbye to the family

I know that realistically, Wendy was far too young to deliver a baby, but I just thought that since she was already a protege at healing magic at twelve, she could do it.
