Apparently, Puckerman had gotten all of the glee kids into a performance of Hot for teacher for no reason apparently and, as much as Winnie had enjoyed it, she couldn't help but wonder what had prompted the song in the first place. Still she clapped and cheered when they were done.

"Puck, guys, spectacular!" Mr. Schue smiled as he walked over to clap Puck in the back. "What a way to start off this week! You guys didn't even need an assignment to work on this. You just did it."

"Mr. Schuester..." Rachel spoke up. "While the performance was excellent, particularly the drumming, don't you think that the subject matter is a little inappropriate?"

"Well, that depends on what Puck's intent was when he chose this song." Mr. Schue said, to which Puck hesitated for a second, before shrugging slightly.

"I guess I just, hum, dig Van Halen." He said, as Mr. Schue smiled.

"All right!"

Mr. Schue had asked the New Directions to meet him at the auditorium, so, there they were. What they didn't expect, however, was to find the Trouble Tones girls walking onto the stage as well.

"What are you doing here?" Rachel asked, as soon as the two groups noticed one another.

"Shelby told us she had something to show us." Mercedes said. "What are you doing here?"

"Mr. Shue said the same thing."

"Let me guess, he wants to combine choirs for Sectionals." Santana scoffed. "Well, it's not gonna happen. The Trouble Tones are here to stay. So why don't you shuffle your busted choir off our stage."

"Look, you guys, we can compete without being enemies, all right?" Finn asked. "We don't have to get vicious."

"Oh, I think we do, Soft Serve." Santana rolled her eyes. "See, the Trouble Tones are 3 Fs: fierce, femme, phenomenal. Oh, and, guys, hurry up, go get some moist towels. We have to keep Finn wet before we can roll him back in the sea."

Winnie rolled her eyes at the unnecessary comment, but she couldn't help but giggle at the way Sugar had seemed ready to follow Santana's orders before Mercedes stopped her.

"Okay, you know what, Santana, Finn is in great shape, and your meanness only highlights your own personal insecurities." Rachel said, quick to defend her boyfriend only to have Santana turn to glare at her instead.

"And, Rachel, your mustache is thicker than a Middle Eastern dictator's."

Before a proper argument could begin, thankfully, Shelby and Mr. Schue walked up on the stage singing a mash-up of Lady Gaga's and Eddie Rabbitt's You and I and, for a moment, all of the children on stage, put aside all of their differences and just enjoyed the performance, cheering and clapping when the teacher's were done.

"Mr. Shue, Shelby, I think we can all admit that that was weirdly amazing." Rachel said. "But what exactly was the point?"

"That sometimes bringing together two conflicting things can create something totally unexpected." Mr. Schue said.

"We're not combining Glee Clubs, Mr. Shue." Mercedes insisted.

"That's not what I'm talking about." The teacher shook her head. "Shelby and I agree that with Sectionals coming up for both of us, it's time we all got serious with some friendly competition."

At the mention of a competition, all the kids perked up in interest and Shelby and Mr. Schue smiled at one another, happy to see that their idea had, apparently, worked.

"Each group's going to put together their own mash-up to perform head-to-head." Mr. Schue continued as the kids all buzzed in excitement. "For the first annual McKinley High Mash-Off!"
