"Ameera, I need to talk"

Abba gestured for me to follow him and I dragged my feet across the laminate. Chewing the last bite of my doughnut, I prepared for the worst.

"Sup?"

"Well," Abba sighed, "It's about Skye,"

"If your kicking her out then...."

"No, no no no, nothing like that," His eyes grew frantic and wide, "Never, not after...."

He stopped and fiddled with his collar. "I want you, to introduce her into Islam, "

I dissolved into peals of laughter. "Abba, this is Skye we're talking about, she an atheist she doesn't believe in any God,"

"Do you know how hard it is to have a mushrik (non believer) as a daughter, shaytaan must be singing,"

"Abba....,"

"Please Ameera,"

I looked into my fathers eyes and gave in. I imagined Skye in a navy blue hijab reading Quraan and my heart swelled.

She's a believer.

Over the next couple of days I sang nasheeds and read Quraan in a loud clear voice hoping that Skye would hear and take an interest.

"Subhanallah walhamdulillah wa la illaha il allah,"

Skye looked up at me curious. "What are you saying?"

Bulls-eye.

"Glory to be Allah, praise to be Allah there is no God except Allah, "

"Allah is your God?"

"Our God," I corrected. "The creater, all seeing all hearing all knowing,"

She narrowed her eyes. "Sit, tell me more,"

Cha ching.

I got comfy on the couch and explained A-z, about Allah, his prophets, his books, his angels, the day of judgement, she had a look of great surprise when I finished.

"Wow, that's er.......amazing," she said, not in a flat, fake voice, but a genuine voice of shock.

"There's so much more to religion than I thought, "

I smiled. "It's perfect even if Muslims aren't, Islam is,"

She opened her mouth a little and shut it. Guessing that was it I stood up, about to leave the room.

"Wait, don't go, read me some more....Qooran,"
