In The Realms of the Unreal

Chapter 36

As the group watched in horror, the dark shape began to sprout tentacles and mouths across it's entire body all while expanding in size immensely. Then the Doctor yelled out "Retreat!"
As the group turned to flee, Mater barely even acknowledged them. She was too busy consumed by the magnificant dark sight forming before her. The age of darkness that she and her two sisters had longed for since the day they were born was about to begin. Soon all her fellow witches that had been burned over the centuries would be avenged and black magic would rule across the entire universe.

A little while later, the group had managed to take shelter in a small crevass inside what could have been an old stone building. Although Shub Niggurath had just awoken, the air was strangely quiet. Not even the sound of the penguins could be heard.

After several seconds in which only the sounds of the group's breathing could be heard, Mcclane was the first to speak

"So what the fuck do we do now? Sit around on our asses and wait for the world to be destroyed?"
"Oh don't be so pessimistic!" Emma snapped "If there's one thing I've learned in all my years upon this earth, it's that where there's a will there's a way."
"What the hell kind of fucked up planet are you living on!" Mcclane fired back "You saw that thing out there! There's nothing we can do! We're fucked as fucked can be!"

King Mob cleared his throat "That's not completely true. There is one thing we can do"
At this, every single person present turned to look at him

"Well go on" Jerry said

At that, King Mob produced a device that almost resembled a long gun with a red button on the end

"A dimensional accelerator" he explained "It's like a particle accelerator crossed with a depth charge. You jab that thing into Shub Niggurath and it and everything in a 50 mile radius will be completely obliterated"
"Then what the hell are we waiting for!" Mulder stood up "Let's go and send that thing back to the depths of hell!"
King Mob looked away awkwardly as did the rest of the Invisibles

"What?" Mulder asked

"With a thing that size, one of us is going to have to stay behind and detonate it" Robin explained.

The group took a second to realise what this meant. Then Jerry groaned

"There's always a catch isn't there. Why is it whenever we think we've gotten somewhere, the world comes and kicks us in the pants?"
"We'd better decide who's going to be the one who does it" Scully said

"Any takers?" The Doctor asked

After a few seconds, Emma spoke

"I'll do it"
The whole group looked at her

"What!" Mulder was taken aback by Emma's willingness "Why?"
"Because I'm the only one here who has nothing left to loose" Emma replied "The rest of you are all relatively young with a long and heroic life ahead of you all. Me, I'm just an old retired spy from an industry that has largely moved on. So I might as well go out in a blaze of glory"

"No I can't let you do that-" King Mob started to say, but Emma stopped him

"Oh hush! I really don't mind doing so. I've had a fun life and a long and varied career. Frankly I'm tired of it all and I'd like to make sure I do one last good deed for the world before I retire"
"Geez lady!" Mcclane exclaimed "We ain't talking about retiring to the Bahamas here! You're gonna completely wipe yourself out in a massive explosion! You really think it'll be a good way out?"
"Oh I'm fully aware of what it entails" Emma smiled "But I've had plenty of time to prepare for my death. I've made my peace with the world and I'm happy it'll end like this. So please. Get out of here and let me do my last job!"
