"i'm here" i called, rushing into the trauma room.

"took you long enough, where were you kepner?" owen hunt, the new head of surgery called out to me.

"i- i...was with another patient i'm sorry" i replied to him, feeling awkward.

"it better not happen again" dr. hunt looked up from the patient, looking directly at me his stern face making me feel scared and guilty.

"what do we have here" i said acting quick to avoid the continuation of this such awkward tension.

"gsw to the left arm, lacerations to the right arm, patient is 34 years old, male, with no underlying medical conditions" dr.hunt repeated to me.

"ok, i need a+ blood stat, page ortho, let's head up to ct" i called ushering for the new interns to follow my instructions. dr. hunt stepped out to work on the patient in trauma 4, i assumed this was my signal that this was now my patient.

as we were going to ct, i checked the chart, no underlying medical conditions, broken arm in the past, isn't on any medications. it all seemed normal at least it was until i looked at the patient's name, patrick willis. i remembered him from the patient i had just a couple of weeks ago, but his face was different i couldn't tell what it is.

i couldn't tell if that wasn't same patient or if the overwhelming headache that had first appeared when patrick wallis came in was effecting me. but that definitely was not the same patrick wallis i treated just a few weeks ago.
