Spent my early life in Liverpool
Something I'm not likely to forget
No, no, no
People blend with places
Faces that I know, but never met

Upstairs on the bus there sits a man
He's talking to himself, or so it seems
Listing names of old comedians
And laughing at 'em

Down the pierhead where the speakers meet
Each of them, his own imagined crowd
Giving us his version of the book
God has written

I spent my early life in Liverpool
Something I'm not likely to regret
No, no, no
People blend with places
And faces that I know, but never met

In the street before they built the road
Raising jam jars for a worthy cause or two
Prince the dog, with one eye to his name
Wants to follow

I spent my early life in Liverpool
Something I'm not likely to forget
People blend with faces
And places that I know, but never met
People blend with places
And faces that I know, but never met

Walking with the boys of Dungeon Lane
Aimlessly towards the cast iron shore
Swapping tales about the Chinese farm
And getting caught
Swapping tales about the Chinese farm
And getting caught

Down the sports field of the Institute
Lives Soft Sid, the harmless village fool
Greets the kids who pass the other side
Saying, "Hello, children"

I spent my early life in Liverpool
Something I'm not likely to forget

Lovely, innit? I wish I could write poetry so good. Or write a song which combines both - wonderful melody and brilliant lyrics.
So, this amazing poem is not mine.
It is a song by Paul McCartney

*End of the pause for a shocked gasp*

I don't think you heard this song, because it is on no LP, EP, compilation or single. It seems to be only a nowhere song. 🤔
Okay, I'll tell you finally. If you have The Liverpool Oratorio DVD set, you know it contains a bonus - video in which Paul visits his old school, which is dilapidated and empty. Whole video is really interesting and touching, because of all the nostalgia... And at the end he sings the song, which was never released.

Here is the song (my favourite Paul's by the way):

Did you know that the students were allowed to bring instruments one day and Paul took his guitar, jumped on the desk and sang Tutti Frutti? Or that George's dad slapped the teacher, who caned his son? Or what happened to the prefect, who told Paul to stop making noise?
Paul'll tell you (and he will jump on the desk again) if you watch the whole video, for example here:

Isn't it so nostalgic and touching and kinda sad? I cry very rarely, but I had to wipe my eyes when he was singing. Maybe because my own school was closed for 5 months then...

But enough about it, my school is opened now, pandemic situation is much better and everything is getting better all the time (I really hope it can't get no worse than it got). What was your favourite moment from the video? I loved when he really jumped on the desk, or imitated the teacher 😁

Have you heard it before? Did you liked it? If yes, of course all credit to Paul, but a vote or comment would be great! Thank you for reading and  support.
See you!
