Monday, Sept 9

"Wow Izuku! You're like a real dragon!"

"Do you think you're gonna grow scales?"

"This is your dad's quirk? That's so cool!"

Midoriya's face was red as his classmates flooded him with questions. Summer break had ended and Izuku returned to school with a fire type quirk. He took a deep breath, puffing out his chest and blowing out. This action emitted a small, kind of pathetic, flame.

However, to izuku and the other five year olds, it was the coolest thing ever.

Izuku Midoriya could breathe fire.

Katsuki watched this from the gate of the playground. An unfamiliar feeling settling in his stomach. As if his insides were twisting with every jealous breath he took. He had planned to make his way to the classroom without being noticed. He wasn't sure if he was ready to face his schoolmates with the knowledge that everyone, even deku, would get a power except him. But of course, with his luck, Izuku spotted him and ran over.

"Kacchan! Welcome back! Did you get your quirk? Mine is dragon breath! I can't wait to see yours!"

"Tch. Just shut it dumb deku, I'm not going to get one so just stop asking about it." He turned up his nose and stomped away.

"He's not getting one?.." Izuku watched as his friend walked towards their classroom, confused as to how Kacchan could say those words so calmly.

---------------

Eventually word got around that Katsuki Bakugou was quirkless. At recess, kids whispered, each one daring another to go talk to him about it.

"No you go do it!"

"No, you! What's he gonna do against your quirk?!"

"I think Izuku should ask him! His quirk is scary!"

"I'll go!" A girl with a simple water quirk, made her way to Katsuki who sat on a picnic bench in the yard.

"Katsuki!"

"What do you want?" He didn't want to be bothered.

"Well a few of us were wondering.. you said heroes have the best quirks, and weaklings have baby quirks. Since you have no quirk what does that make you? And well.. how will you-"

Katsuki shot up from his seat. "Listen up stupid girl, I may not have a power but I can still beat every villain I come across and all of you! I'm still going to be the greatest hero, just wait!" He grabbed his lunch box and stormed away from the playground.

-----------------

That afternoon when he got home Bakugou begged his dad to put learning videos of various Japanese fighting styles on their TV. Ones that he could master without the use of a power.

Everyday, Katsuki trained.

And everyday he swore to himself that he, was going to be a hero.
