The day following the arrival of Vera, Alec and Jane was Christmas. Bella, Edward, and Jacob had stated that they were going to spend the day at Charlie's. Vera, who missed both Seth and Billy had requested to tag along and wasn't refused. Alec, who didn't want to be without Vera had forced himself to be allowed to come too. Jane had stayed behind, not wanting to be near the repulsive scent of werewolves and having developed somewhat of a friendship with Kate Denali.

"Vera!" Seth called out as he came running towards the half breed with open arms

"Hey Seth!" Vera yelled as she wrapped her arms around Seth who had picked up from her waist and was spinning her around. He had grown quite a bit since she had seen him last. Having gained about five inches and maybe 50 pounds he was no longer the runt of the pack; actually he was nearly as big as Jacob now.

"Take your hands off her before I make you take your hands off her." Alec snarled, not sure where the sudden anger had come from, but being unable to keep from expressing it as he watched the tanned boy spin his mate around as if she were his.

"Alec." Vera scolded him "He is sixteen, lay off"

"And I'm seventeen." Alec scoffed

"So did you want to do something or were you just listing your ages." Seth challenged

Bam. Like like a boulder crashing into cement Alec's fist met Seth's face, sending him to the floor. Seth stood up with his face bleeding. In less than a minute the wound had healed and he was glowering at Alec, his body shaking.

"Hey. Hey!" Vera said, stepping between the two boys, holding her arms out. "Alec, go home. I'll see you there in a few hours."

He glowered at Seth but heeded Vera's unsaid warning and turned around, gone in a flash. She looked over to see that Edward had come out to see what was going on, he looked almost empathetic.

"Seth I'm sorry." She said turning around to her friend.

"You should keep better company, Vera." Was all he had to say. He had managed to calm himself down, his body no longer convulsing. Out of everyone, he had the best control of his temper.

"He's not usually like this." She said quietly, knowing damn well that's exactly what he was like towards everyone but her.

"Really? Vera? You're defending him?" He raised an eyebrow, not angry towards his friend, just hurt.

"No... no I'm not he shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry for bringing him but I don't want to spend this short amount of time fighting with my best friend please." She pleaded with him not to be angry anymore.

"Well." Seth broke out in a grin "You sent him away, in my honor. I shall cherish that moment forever."

Vera laughed as she threw her arm around him and they went into the house Edward had disappeared into once he saw that everything was okay.

She spent the time watching everyone open Christmas gifts and laugh with each other. She was reminded of her father when he saw Charlie cackle at something his granddaughter said. Her heart warmed in this atmosphere, one big family that she was a part of. She and Seth also had a competition to see who could eat the most hamburgers. Everyone had looked at them in disgust except Jacob, who kind of looked like he wanted to join.

"Seth you're going to lose. I haven't eaten a single thing in nearly three days." She looked over to the tanned boy who rolled his eyes.

"That doesn't matter. Your stomach size in no way even compares to mine." He scoffed at the half breed
