╰┈➤ HARRY'S POV

The next few days went by in a whirl as Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Elsie happily readjusted to life at Hogwarts. Because of the persistent rain, most of their time was spent indoors, sitting around the glowing fireplace in the Gryffindor common room, studying, and hanging out with their friends.

Just the other night, Fred and George had thrown another one of their legendary game nights to kick off the start of the new school year. As usual, but to the surprise of the overjoyed first-years, the twins had managed to provide the Gryffindors with a stash of beverages and sweets from Honeydukes. The common room had been alive with activity into the late hours of the night; groups of friends were playing Wizarding Skittles and Exploding Snap, and one group had even decided to play the Muggle game, Truth or Dare. The bits of the conversation that Harry had overheard from that group were enough to make him never, ever want to play that game.

Harry had awoken the next morning eager for the third-year Gryffindor's first lesson with Professor Moody. According to Fred, George, and Lee, Mad-Eye Moody really knew his stuff when it came to the Dark Arts. Ron also shared Harry's excitement for Professor Moody's lesson, so much so that they arrived at class early on Thursday to ensure seats at the front of the classroom. Elsie and Hermione, on the other hand, were a bit apprehensive about learning Defense Against the Dark Arts from Moody; the whole incident with him turning Malfoy into a ferret still had them a bit unnerved.

"Is he really qualified to teach?" Hermione muttered under her breath as the four of them found seats right in front of the teacher's desk.

"According to Fred and George, he's amazing," said Elsie, setting her textbook out in front of her, "but then again," she smirked, "of course they'd idolize someone who turned Draco into a ferret."

"Who wouldn't?" said Ron, a wide smirk on his face. "Mad-Eye deserves to be on a chocolate frog card just because of that glorious incident." He closed his eyes, an uplifted expression on his face as he rubbed his temples, most likely replaying the scene over in his mind. "If only I had your Omnioculars, Harry," Ron sighed, "I could have watched that unfold in slow motion."

Harry and Elsie snorted with laughter just as the room had suddenly gone quiet.

Out in the hall, the dull sound of metal clinking on wood was getting closer and closer. Suddenly, the door to the classroom burst open, causing everyone to jump in their seats. In the doorway stood Professor Moody, casually leaning on his walking stick, his electric-blue eye scanning their faces.
