"You sure you want to walk home by yourself?." Cake asks, raising a brow in curiosity as she cleans up the kitchen.
You smile softly, nodding.
"Of course, Fionna and you always walk me home, you two need a much needed break! I can handle myself." You say confidently, puffing out your chest to prove a point in this discussion.
Cake sighs, looking towards Fionna who just had her thumbs up in approval. You didn't need those two's permission to go out, especially at night, but considering they're your closest friends, more family, they do get protective of you, especially seeing as you don't fight whatsoever - not that it's a problem for them, they just want to make sure you're safe all the time.
"It's okay Cake, I'm sure y/n will be just fine! She doesn't live that far away anyway." Fionna cuts in, giving Cake an reassuring smile.
Cake blinked a few times, thinking thoroughly if this is a good idea - but after about a minute of silence, glancing over at Fionna and you, she knew you'll be okay, so with a heavy sigh, she nods.
"Okay, you can go." Cake says, sounding like a mother, making you laugh.
"Thanks Cake! I promise I'll be careful, if anything happens, I'll give you a call." You said, making Cake pout.
"You better, Fionna and I will be awake all night if we have too." She says, making Fionna raise a brow.
"We will?."
"Yes we will!." Cake snaps, pouting more.
You laugh, waving them both a goodbye and a goodnight before leaving their treehouse, excitement and fear both growing through your entire body.
Excited because you almost always have either Fionna or Cake by your side, not that you didn't like their company, you just never gone out by yourself- in a very long time. But tonight you wanted to go out alone, seeking some sort of excitement and independence for a couple of hours. It's nice to be alone from time to time.
But also fear because you've haven't been out alone, at night, in a very long time. You always had at least someone with you at night, so over time of always being in someone else's presence, you kinda grew the fear of what would happen to you if you were left alone, what would happen if you're by yourself? You never liked the dark, you loved nighttime but, prefered to stay inside than to go out, unless Fionna and Cake are with you.
It's strange how fears work and play out, now you've been walking home for just over five minutes. Your house wasn't that far, you just had to cut through the woods, which wasn't that big nor deep. A simple path, part A to part B - there was nowhere else to go, the path had one rout and one only. So it was easy to get through, almost impossible for anybody to get lost.
Though there was a few creepy things about the woods, the trees always seem to be more, alive at night, the creatures in the night are more active and scary than in the day, there was always some odd sound being heard from inside the woods but, why would you investigate on the sound when you could just ignore it and survive, while going home?
You've walked inside the woods plenty of times before and nothing dangerous has ever happened, yet- you just hope tonight is peaceful and not the wrong time.
You now finally made it to the woods, knowing it'll now only take you at least ten more minutes until home, and that thought made you smile small. You kept your focus on the trail, counting rocks and stones as you pass by them, occasionally looking up at the stars with wonder, hoping and wishing to get home safely.
