Do you long to be left all alone?
Set apart with a heart made of stone
There's a light that you shine
There's a love, I see it in your eyes

Draco didn't speak once throughout the entire prefects meeting, nor during the ride to the castle. He sat in the carriage across from Hermione in complete silence seething. He wanted to get away from her already, and they hadn't even entered the common room. Even as the feast began, Draco merely pushed his Sheppard’s Pie around his plate.

He knew without a doubt that if they kept this fight going, it'd get ugly. It wasn't like he wanted to be nasty to her anymore, it was just all he knew. Draco had spent the better part of 6 years doing all he could to torment the girl. Even if he'd only done it to please his father, at some point calling her names and hurting her had become second nature.

He wasn't going to forgive her though, she hadn't earned that though. Hermione had fought a war so that people would stop assuming she was some halfwit magic stealing imposter. Yet now she couldn't understand that Draco could change, that he wasn't some halfwit, death eater jerk. If nothing else it was ironic, it wasn't ok at all, but it was ironic.

"Ehm... I have a few announcements and things I'd like to tell you all before you all head to your common rooms." McGonagall said. Draco hadn't realized he'd ignored the entire sorting ceremony.

"First as always first years should note that unless escorted by a teacher, entering The Forbidden Forest is, as the name suggests, forbidden. Access to the 7th floor has been barred due to repairs. I would also like to introduce you all to this year’s Head Boy and Girl. Mr. Draco Malfoy," there was only a bit of clapping from the Slytherin table. "And Miss Hermione Granger." The three tables in front of Draco erupted in applause. "They are to whom you shall seek if prefects are not able to handle your requests. You should give them both the utmost respect, or you will be sent to me."

"I hope you all recognize the need for unity this year. We have just come out of one of the darkest times the wizarding world has ever seen. We fought a war and lost so many of our beloved. That is the past though, we have one, and though we carry our losses with us, we must remember the purpose of that war. We fought to have freedom, for all those who possess magical skill. No one student in this hall is any better than another. Be you a pure blood, be you a half blood, or be you muggle born. Weather you get every spell at first try, or have to study and work at it. If you excel at Quittich or herbology, charms or divination. None if it makes you better, it simply makes you all unique. You would all do well to learn to work together, despite your differences and houses. You will find once you leave here, the wizarding world no longer accepts ancient minded prejudice.

"Now lastly I'd like to introduce you to a few new members of our staff. Due their unfortunate passing, Professor Snape and Professor Burbage's positions have been taken over. For Muggle Studies please welcome Professor Ivan Balit." He was an elderly man with white hair and a white stubble covering his face. "Due to his unfortunately resignation, our original choice for Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher had to be replaced."

"I heard he backed out when he heard the job was cursed." Blaise whispered to Draco.

"We'd like to welcome Professor William Weasley to our staff and thank him for accepting on such short notice." The hall erupted in applause and cheers as the man stood. Draco couldn't help but notice the long scars that ran along the side of his face. It was undeniable where they'd come from.

"We also have Professor Adrian Lazarus," a dark skinned man stood, his black deadlocks pulled in a ponytail. "Who will be taking over Potions. Professor Slughorn has decided he'd rather have a quiet retirement. Lastly we have Professor Catia Tozar," she was a small woman with simple features. Her blonde hair turning pink as she blushed and waved. "Who will be teaching Transfigurations. Professor Lazarus will be taking over as head of Slytherin house, while Professor Weasley will head Gryffindor. I ask you all to give these teachers a break while they settle into their new positions."

"With all of that, I bid all of you goodnight, and a happy term. Now prefects, if you would please show the first years to their common rooms. The rest of you are dismissed."

Draco nearly ran from the great hall, leaving Blaise and Pansy to show the first year Slytherin’s to the dungeons. He just to get to his room and reach some peace and quiet. As he passed the balcony on the fourth floor he came to a portrait. A young girl sat on a swing below a willow tree. Draco could hear humming as he stared upon the little girl with blonde ringlets.

"Password?" She said with a slight giggle.

"Uh... Albus." Draco couldn't stop staring at the girl as the portrait swung forward. As he walked into the common room, he couldn't help but feel she looked familiar.

As he shook the thought from his head he finally stopped and looked at where he was standing. The common room was smaller than Slytherin's, but more welcoming by far. The walls where painted a dark gold color and the tapestries all around were a shimmering silver. Two love seat and a large couch sat in the center all a dark silver with gold stitching and buttons. His favorite part was the two armchairs in front of the fire. One a deep crimson with a lion’s head on the back, the other a deep green with a serpent.

Along the walls, 3 doors where separated by bookcases. One with Draco's name, one with Hermione's, and what he presumed must be a washroom. Before he could get the chance to investigate further though, the portrait opened.

"You were supposed to help the prefects show the Slytherin students to their common room Malfoy. Slacking already?" Hermione stood in the door way with a grin. She hoped maybe he'd be willing to drop their earlier fight.

"It doesn't take 3 people to show a bunch of children a room. Stop being such a goodie good." Draco said with a roll of his eyes.

"You're impossible Malfoy."

"Back to first names I see." Malfoy sneered.

"Shove off. I'm not in the mood to fight you any longer. I'm tired of your mood swings."

"MY MOOD SWINGS?!?! Pot calling the kettle black much? You're the one who’s impossible Granger." Draco turned on his heel, and went to his room, slamming the door behind himself.

He was done, done listening to Hermione act as though she was perfect. Draco knew he wasn't perfect himself, but he was trying. She'd never see it though, so he was done showing it to her.

He stopped for a moment to look at his room, shocked at how similar it was to his room at home. In the center below a window was a large 4 poster bed. It had black silky sheets, quite a few dark blue pillows, and a black duvet. Next to the bed was a dark mahogany stand that matched the cabinet next to him. On the wall to his left was a giant mahogany desk.

As much as he wanted to check out the bathroom he was not going to risk another run in with Hermione. He was too tired to keep fighting with her. So he threw himself on the bed not even bothering to undress and let sleep take him. Once again the dreams began.

A/N: Hello lovelies! I've missed you all. I know 2 days isn't that long, but its too long for me. I have been at a slight stand still knowing that I need to get a bit of pesky detail out of the way. Good news is, things are going to get interesting next chapter, and I will be starting that now. Happy reading loves!
