As I lay on the grass of my backyard and take in the warm April sun, I breathe in. Duncan's laying next to me in the grass, but probably thinking of Courtney. We've been best friends since kindergarten, but since 8th grade he's been dating Courtney. I've had a major crush on him but haven't to a soul, except to whoever is reading this.

Duncan takes a deep breath in and twirls a strand of grass like its hair. I wince with my eyes and he turns to me and smirks.

"What ya thinking about Pasty?" He asks a little deviously. I want to say that I was thinking about him and that I have been thinking about him since 6th grade.
"Just staring at the clouds." I lied. God I hate lying to him, but he would freak if he found out that I liked him. I mean when he found out that Courtney liked him, he flipped because they were good friends, but now he's in love and dating her. He turns to me and smirks again, this time he looks like he's day dreaming.
"What the heck are you staring at?" I ask, trying not to care.
"Just thinking of the girl I love." I give an annoyed sigh, he's always thinking about Courtney, and who could blame him? She's beautiful, popular, independent, and she can really sing. We sit there for another couple minuets when all of he sudden it begins to thunder. Duncan sits up and smells the air, like a barbecue is is close by. I raise my head up and he stand up. I begin to sit up and he helps me up, we slowly walk over to the back door but it's locked. I quickly run to the front door and open it. There inside is my brother Seth sitting on the couch. He tries to be a slacker, but always fails. I unlock the back door from the inside and Duncan walks in, wet. God he's so cute when in the rain, it's like he came out of a movie. I bite my lip and he walks over and grabs a towel.

He doesn't say much and often checks his phone. Eventually Courtney calls him while we're on the couch, watching Judge Judy. I force Seth to mute the TV out of respect.

"Hey Princess." He begins. I can barley hear Courtney's high pitched squeaky voice through the phone. She's yelling at him again. He roll his eyes and gives an annoyed sigh. She probably went on about how his music is the worst and how he's a total slop.
"Yo drama queen relax, it's all good." He says calmly. That's another reason why I love him, even when he's in trouble he can always stay calm and relaxed. She begins to scream so loud me and Seth can even hear her.

"YOU STUPID JERK FACE! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND YOU NEED TO CHANGE! MY PARENTS ARE LITERALLY ALWAYS BUGGING ME ABOUT YOU, AND IF YOU'RE HANGING OUT WITH GWEN RIGHT NOW, YOU BETTER PRAY TO GOD THAT I DON'T SKIN YOU ALIVE!" She screamed. I placed my heart on my chest. Courtney told me she was ok with me talking to Duncan, hello I am is his best friend.

"Look Courtney, babe, I know your parents hate me, I've known it from the start, but you need to decide for yourself if your willing to take their complaints for the sake of love." He says calmly. I try not to sigh because to me and maybe only to me that makes sense. He turns to me and smiles, but it's not a romantic smile, just a friend smile. I'm smart enough to know the difference.

They talk for another half hour and Duncan leaves the living room and heads upstairs. I just think he's going to the bathroom or something and Seth puts the sound back on. We watch Judge Judy for another 15 minuets when I noticed Duncan hasn't come downstairs. I walk up stairs and knock on the bathroom door, I open it but no ones in there. I keep walking around until I hear some humming in my room. I knock and there's Duncan, laying on my bed playing with an old teddy bear if mine. He looks up and is startled.

"What are you doing here?" He asks.
"I don't know if you've noticed, but I live here." I say sarcastically and lay down in the bed with him. He's in his back still playing with the teddy bear, I look up at the ceiling and just blankly stare at it. Pretty soon I feel these hands intertwined with mine and I look over, it's Duncan. He's holding my hand. I can barley breathe. Does he like me? Then he speaks.

"Hey Gwen, we're beast friends right?" He asks. I nod and he continues. "And best friends don't keep secrets from each other, right?" I nod again and he looks at me and turns on his side. He leans in closer, a couple centimeters from my lips and quietly speaks again. "So why do I feel like you're hiding something from me?" He asks quietly and I literally can't breathe. I pretend to hate physical contact and release my hand from his grasp and push him away from me. He giggles and we begin to wrestle. I don't know how log we've been up there, but pretty soon Seth comes up and stares at us blankly

"Are you guys having sex or something?" He asked. I roll my eyes, is that literally all guys nowadays can think about? Duncan stops wrestling and sits on the bed.

"You know most slackers would've just kept walking." He said and Seth quickly leaves the room. Duncan turns back to me and gives a devious smile. I give a mad look to him.
"You have a girlfriend." I say firmly and he rolls his eyes.
"Party pooper." He murmurs and I sit up and slap him across the face. He runs his face with his hands and gives me a smirk.
"I know you want me." He says proudly.
"Yes because I so want a jerk who forgets to change his socks." I say and roll my eyes. He gets off the bed and heads down stairs, I follow him down and he gets his phone. I kinda stand there in the corner, trying not to stare at him, but maybe it's his green Mohawk or the amount of piercings on his face that made me keeps looking back. When he was done he stood at the door and looked out on the rain. I walked up to him and gave him a goodbye hug.

"See you Monday Pasty."
"See you Monday Juvie." I reply and let go from hugging him. He opens the door and runs to his red truck. As soon as he gets in he starts the engine and heads off. I close the door and sit on the windowsill and stare at the window, quietly wishing that he would come back.
