August's POV

It was a Saturday but I didn't feel like stayin' in bed. I got up and did my hygiene. Then went to the little studio I have in my basement. Lately, I been reconsidering this singing thing. I played back the track, put my headphones in and started singing.

Don't forget about me
Don't forget about me
Don't forget about me

I'll never forget where I come from, I'm from the bottom
The shoes on my feet, I remember how I got 'em
When I didn't have a car
I was on the bus stop, when I needed cash
I was selling crack rock
Didn't have a lot but a nigga had enough
Had to keep it moving when the going got tough
It was bad y'all
Lost some niggas on the way, it's sad y'all
They couldn't make it here today

Now I do it for my homies
That'll never get to do it
And I do it for the mamas
Trying to make it on their own
Yeah I do it for the thugs
On the yard locked up
And I do it for New Orleans
Couldn't do it all alone
Believe it, while I'm out here on the grind
Looking out for me
All my homies saying
Dawg don't forget about me
I'm just trying to shine
And see what I can be
Cause I can hear them saying
Aug, don't forget about me

Don't forget about the hard nights
Don't forget about the downtown street lights
Don't forget about your brother
Don't forget about his daughters
Don't forget your little nieces growing up without a father
And son remember mama
Remember all the nights she had to put up with your drama
And for anybody else who's saying don't forget you
My advice is that you just be unforgettable

Now I do it for my homies
That'll never get to do it
And I do it for the mamas
Trying to make it on they own
Yeah I do it for the thugs
On the yard locked up
And I do it for New Orleans
Couldn't do it all alone
Believe it, while I'm out here on the grind
Looking out for me
All my homies saying
Dawg don't forget about me
I'm just tryna shine
And see what I can be
Cause I can hear them saying
Aug, don't forget about me

After I had finished, I came out of the booth and played back the track. Once I was happy with how it sounded, I sent it to DEF JAM RECORDS' manager and started to write more music.

I used to Upload videos of me singing on YouTube until my mama took it away from. She told me it was all a waste of time and I should just stay in school so then I stopped. Chris and I always used to sing together everywhere we went, doing harmonies, rapping and all that shit but it just stopped all of a sudden. We were both planning to become singers one day till I killed the dream by listenin' to my mama. Till this they, I still don't forgive her. She put me through so much grieve and pain. She chose drugs and alcohol over me. She chose my drug addicted pops and step pops over me. She chose everything over me. She has never apologized for anything she's done to me and my brothers. The only person who's been there for me was Mel. He was a father figure for me and an inspiration to both Chris and I. Yeah I know what your thinking. What did you mean by brotherS? See, i've got two more older brothers - Travis and Jamal. Jamal is always high and never knows what he is doing. You could say that he took after our pops but at least he's still there for his son JJ. Travis, on the other hand, was there for me but her lived in another state so he wasn't there 24/7.
