Jay's POV: Once me and Erin made our way into the district and upstairs, I smiled when we saw the entire intelligence unit there speaking to Miller. That's when they all looked at Champ and thought about petting him. "Okay guys, don't even get me started. You all know I am a military vet. That's why this little guy is in here." They all agreed and nodded. Superintendent Miller when walked over to Erin. "I am so sorry for your loss Erin. I hope you are okay to start work." Erin nodded when she asked her that. "Believe me, I am ready to work. I've always been ready."
That's when we heard Matt, Severide and Antonio come and join us. "I hope we didn't miss the ceremony." Erin then turned around to look at them and smiled as she walked over to Matt. "Hey, I am so glad that you could make it. Where's Gabby?" She then went to hug Severide and Antonio, smiling at them both. "Gabby is currently at home with the twins and Louie. I am just staying for the installation ceremony and then I am headed home." Me and Erin both agreed with that. "Considering I am a pending father, I would do the same in your situation."
That's when Miller looked at us all. "Is this everybody here for the ceremony?" I was about to say yes when the unit came in. "I hope you don't mind if we came to witness the swearing in of our new leader?" I then turned to look at Ruzek and Burgess, nodding. "Of course not, just stay away...we do not need our new leader here..." I then stopped talking considering what Hank died of. We all understood what I was talking about though. Looking at her, I went to wrap my arm around her before kissing the side of her head. "I am so sorry." She agreed with me. "I'm okay."
I nodded when she said that before looking at Miller. "Well, looks like we have your witnesses. I am going to keep this short under the circumstances. We can do the official ceremony at another date but...how about we do the oaths?" Erin the looked around. "Commissioner, do you mind if Dawson and Halstead take the same oath as me? They are going to be my Deputies." Antonio was shocked when she said that. "I am?" Erin then turned to look at him. "Yes, I want you to be my Deputy Head of Intelligence for Narcotics. Jay will be Principal Deputy Head of Intelligence."
Antonio smiled when she said that. "I would be honored to take the position subject to your approval of course Commissioner." Commissioner Miller then looked at him. "Erin is now the head of Intelligence, she is the one in charge. By the way, I have been told that it is Sergeant Lindsay-Halstead correct?" Erin nodded when she said that. "Officially. However, I will still be referred to as Lindsay when it comes to radio communications." Miller nodded when she said that. "Of course. Now, how about we get this ceremony on the road."
We all nodded when she said that. "How about this...I will do Lindsay-Halstead first and then she can have the honor of appointing and swearing you in as her deputies herself?" Erin turned to look at me when she said that. "I would love that Commissioner. I would love to do that for my husband." I then nodded and agreed. "However, can I hold the book for her Commissioner?" She agreed and nodded as I went to grab the constitution that she was going to be swearing her oath as Sergeant and Head of Intelligence upon.
Smiling at her as she put her hand on the constitution, I just listened to her as she recited her oath back to Commissioner Miller. "I, Erin Anne Halstead vow to serve the citizens of the City of Chicago with honor and integrity and to lead the Chicago Police Department's Intelligence Division with the same honor and integrity expected of me as a Chicago Police Department Sergeant." I smiled when she said that before hearing clapping.
I then looked at Erin as she went to ask Matt to grab another bible. "Matt, can you grab the bible over there and we can do Jay and Antonio at the same time?" Matt nodded and smiled as he went to walk over to his brother-in-law. "From a distance okay?" We all agreed and nodded. Erin then went to start reciting the oath of our (new) offices.
Jay's Oath:
"I, Jay Patrick Halstead vow to serve the citizens of Chicago with the same honor and integrity that I have vowed to serve my country as a military intelligence officer. I vow my loyalty and fidelity to the Chicago Police Department's Intelligence Division and I vow to ethically exercise the limited authority over the Intelligence Division that has been vested in me by the new Head of the Intelligence Division...(my beautiful wife), Detective Sgt. Erin Anne Lindsay-Halstead."Antonio's Oath:
"I, Antonio Ramon Dawson vow to serve the citizens of Chicago with honor and integrity. I vow my loyalty and fidelity to the Chicago Police Department's Intelligence Division and I vow to ethically exercise the limited authority over the Intelligence Division that has been vested on my by the new head of the Intelligence Division, Detective Sgt. Erin Anne Lindsay-Halstead."Erin then smiled when I finished. "You improvised the oath. But congratulations Antonio and Jay." Erin then walked up to me before going to kiss me softly. "It's true though...you are very beautiful." Erin then smiled as she wrapped her arms around me, holding me close. "You are already getting tired aren't you?" Erin sighed and nodded. "This is why I didn't want any guests." She then turned to look at Burgess and Ruzek. "Get home and work on that case with the cruise ships." That's when we all heard a voice we didn't expect.
"You mean the case that I am going to help you figure out?" Turning to see who it was, Erin was shocked. "Sofia!" Antonio then turned to look at her too and was shocked. "Sofia. God, please be negative so that I can hug you." Sofia nodded when he said that. "That's why I took so long coming here." She then went to hug her new brother and smiled.
