"Ollie! Go!" I yell at him. He's much faster than me as we're both running down the dirt roadway towards the barn and old house.

"But what-!"

"Just go!" I yell at him and he kicks it off into high gear as a woman comes bursting through the front door to the old white wooden house.

The belted screams still wail from the barn and Ollie runs inside the large opening where the double barn doors are propped open, disappearing from my sight.

The woman dressed in a long skirt is right on Ollie heels and disappears inside as well, her screams suddenly mix with the other.

Adrenaline courses through me, but I'm calm as I sprint into the barn and assess the woman on the ground craddeling a man soaked in blood, hay, and dirt. He's older, dressed in dirty overalls, and his arm has been ripped off with shreds of skin and muscles hanging from just below the shoulder.

Ollie stands with his hands in his hair frozen above the two, "Ollie, I need you to turn that machine off and get the arm." My voice is calm but assertive.

"His fucking- bloody Hell- w-what?!" He asks me, his face drained and pale white.

"Turn the machine off." I tell him slowly, knowing by the blood trail the arm is caught inside the large grain auger. He visibly gulps and nods once running to the clicking and sputtering machine.

"Okay, listen to me," I tell the man and bend down. "I'm going to help you okay. I need you to try to stay calm." Quickly, I rip the womans dress and apply the material directly to the wound.

The machine's broken sounds go silent and Ollie runs up the ramp and looks inside, gagging loudly.

"Ma'am, I need you to call the emergency line." I tell her, "I also need you to bring me any first aid supplies you have, clean towels," I hold the mans shoulder upwards as the blood spews soaks the material, "Lots of towels!"

The woman nods and sobs then takes off in a sprint towards the house.

"I've got the...the..." Ollie says, his voice cracking coudly. Glancing up I see he has the arm and is running back down the ramp.

"Okay, I need you to listen," I say nothing Ollie looks as though he might pass out as he looks at the blood soaking my hands, "Oliver! I need you to take the arm inside and get it into the sink or bath. It needs to be on ice but wrapped in a clean damp towel and put inside a bag or something close to it."

"Cold and bag, yes, okay," he mumbles and starts towards the house.

"Do not pass out!" I warn him. "If you feel sick, sit down!" I add as he sprints off with the arm just as the woman arrives with an arm full of towels and an old red tin. "Open that up for me," I tell her. She does and all I see are band-aids and scissors with gauze. Nothing I want or need. "Sir, what's your name?" I ask him applying another towel over the soaked one.

"Ben," he winces and the woman whimpers beside him, taking his other hand.

"Hi Ben, I'm Murry. You are going to be just fine, okay?"

"Are you a doctor?" The woman asks her eyes misting and chin shaking.

"I'm not. But I've dealt with many amputations." I assure them. "Ben, just breathe and try to keep your heart rate down, alright." I apply a new towel onto the two existing that are damp with blood. "How far is the furthest hospital?" I ask the woman.

"Two hours drive. But they are sending a  helicopter."

"You hear that, Ben? They'll be here in no time." I keep firm pressure on the large wound and notice the third towel has slowed and has kept mostly dry.
