(Notice: I carried this oneshot over from my other book. Just a heads-up)

Hello! Today we have something special, a collab with enby_ofdoom! We chose a prompt, then both decided to write our takes on it. The prompt was...

Hex banned angst.

"It's okay, because we're together."

Warnings are pain, uh, emotional pain?, mentioned/implied betrayal, and death.

WC: ~650

Enjoy!

Being in the Void was horrible.

Cold, empty, dead.

Frigid, blank, crushing.

Once you were sent in it, you knew your fate.

You knew you were doomed.

Banned, banished, gone.

Hopeful, accepting, hopeless.

It was over.

The Void killed you slowly.

Painfully.

It chipped away at your soul.

It was a mind game.

A game that left you scrambling.

A game that you couldn't win.

Because you had no control.

Everyone knew this about the Void.

Which was exactly why it hurt when Xisuma sentenced his own brother to it.

Xanthus floated around in the emptiness, tears dripping from his eyes. Imaginary claws of darkness swirled around him, grabbing at his sanity, grabbing at his soul, tearing, ripping...

You would think that he'd be used to it by now.

You never get used to the Void.

Xay gave a shuddering sigh, hugging himself tightly.

Maybe with physical protection, he'd be safe from the demons that surrounded him.

He knew that was impossible, but it wouldn't hurt to pretend.

However, he knew that it would be over soon.

He knew his time was coming.

The Void only played for so long, before growing impatient.

One day, it'd overthrow the gameboard.

One day, it'd throw a fit.

One day, he'd be gone.

And there was nothing he could do.

Hels hated the Void.

Everyone did, but it was a different type of hatred.

The darkness around him, the swirling pain, the spinning thoughts.

It was all just a reminder.

A reminder that he had given in.

A reminder of his mistake.

I should have never trusted Wels.

Anger burned in Hels's stomach, stronger than the pain.

The one time, the one time he placed his trust in someone...

It bit him in the back.

Hels trusted no one.

Well... except one person from his past.

But that person was gone a long time ago, and Hels had never seen him again.

Hels sometimes wished he knew what Xay was doing.

The only person he had ever trusted.

But he'd never know.

Because he was going to die.

Cold, alone,

And betrayed.

Hels sighed, then winced, and spun around from his place in the inky darkness.

And saw a dark figure.

In the distance, someone else.

Also banished, you could tell because of the darkness that slashed at them.

Who... what-

Hels did his best to move towards them, biting back unwanted tears at the flashes of electric pain.

Hels hesiated, then opened his mouth to call out.

"Hello?!"

Hels flinched at his voice. It was like a foreign object, unable to be recognized even by the person whom generated it. It cracked heavily, having not been used in stars knew how long.

But the pain was all worth it when the figure turned around to face him.

The world seemed to freeze, even the talons of agony stopping for a moment.

Both people were frozen in place, in shock, in wonder, feeling the first sparks of hope that they'd felt in a long time.

"Hels?"

Xay's voice was soft, a whisper, but it was enough.

Hels felt like he was ripping past the darkness, tearing the pain that surrounded him away, felt like he was running, running, and when he enveloped Xay in his arms, the warmth that overwhelmed the pain was like feeling the sun for the first time ever.

"You're here," Xay breathed. "Why are you here?!"

"It doesn't matter," Hels murmured.

"We're going to die," Xay cried. "Why are you here?! Why couldn't it have just been me..."

"It's okay," Hels replied firmly. "It's okay, because we have each other."

The darkness was clearly tired of waiting.

It jabbed at them both, and Hels gripped Xay tighter as the other whimpered from the pain.

"It's almost over," Xay whispered. "I can feel it."

"As long as we're together," Hels promised. "It'll be okay."

The Void pulled at them, it's patience worn out.

Five.

Agony blazed through Hels, and he felt tears slip down his cheeks.

Four.

Xay hugged Hels, waiting, waiting for it to be over.

Three.

Hels gently kissed Xay's forehead, memories of what they used to be flooding his head.

Two.

Xay smiled, and pressed their foreheads together.

One.

The pair's last breath was shared between them.

<EvilXisuma fell out of the world>

<Helsknight fell out of the world>

Banned, loved, wished, wanted, and gone at last.

It was over.
