the sky cries pearls

The night was cold and dark
lit by my car's headlights
glistening raindrops
Tears like stars

Amidst the quiet
Tricking  pearls
Clinking on the metal roof
of my little car.
In my mind
my thundering thoughts
clouded my judgement.
In my mind
I was far
from here.

I thought of him.
Like a ghost
He had haunted me for months now.
All I ever did was think of him.
Even when I didn't want to.

Going out for dinner
I wondered if I'd see him
As I drove
I wondered if I would pass him
As I dreamt
I wondered if he still thought of me
When I felt myself moving on
I wondered if he still wanted me

Like a bird
Trapped in a cage
Hesitent to turn the page
the keys are in
the palms of my hands.
I just can't...

Golden strings hung,
millions of pearls,
glimmering with the dawning sun
I flipped on the wipers
And watched as the strands
were undone

I smiled.
I laughed.
I wept.

I let go.

Because in that moment
I finally turned the key
I noticed my heartbreak
And I found a sea
Of pearls
Of tears
Of rain
But I was free.

In that moment,
I discovered
that even the sky cries.
But she does not dim her light
for the man who sleeps away her glowing night.
or hides himself from her sun's warm white

She simply glows.
Because she knows
even when man is distracted by the worries of this world
She is the one who holds it in her hands.
