Tom's POV

Tom didn't know where they were going, he hadn't ever been allowed this far out of the grounds.

London was like a different universe, there was so much to see that he had half a mind to just go off on his own. But something about this lady made him even more curious.

Besides, she had promised him food, and she seemed like the kind of person to follow up with their promises. Or at least that is what he told himself to explain for his weird behaviour towards this woman he didn't know a single thing about.

They turned a few street corners onto a street named Charing Cross Road and he knew immediately that this place was different. Now Tom had always been an exceptionally observant child, that's why he could see that there were many of the same people he was used to seeing, regular people going about their regular days doing their regular jobs, but here there were a few people dressed in weird clothes coming in and out of a mangy-looking pub and he swore that some of them seemed to disappear out of mid-air.

As they got closer to the said pub, he was able to discern its name from the rickety sign: The leaky Cauldron.

What kind of name was that?

They kept getting closer and closer until Tom understood that this would be their destination.

As the duo passed the threshold he felt a weird tingling feeling wash over him, it felt amazing, accepting and warm. He was about to inquire as to what it was when he looked up and actually took in his surroundings.

Everyone in there was wearing the most bizarre of things, it was that either they were wearing what he could only describe as an absolutely horrendous imitation of regular clothing or very long coat-looking garments that came in all different shades and colours. Tom thought that they were much nicer than the clothes they gave them at the orphanage, which were all a very dull shade of grey.

After he stopped gawking, the lady who he still didn't know the name of, lead him to a table in the back. When they sat down, he felt like he was about to burst with questions. The first one to come out though was

"Who are you?" he asked voice full of wonder and curiosity.

The smile she gave him was almost blinding

"I'm Holly, what's your name?"

"My name is Tom"

"Well it's nice to meet you, Tom" Now, he did not like his name but he found he loved the way that she, no, Holly, said it it made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

A waiter came by to take their order and he couldn't help but hate the way he was looking at Holly, she was talking to him, not this ugly waiter boy.

While they were talking he had more time to dissect his surroundings.

What he saw nearly made him question his sanity.

There were containers, no, cauldrons that were stirring themselves, dishes cleaning themselves, people walking through fireplaces full of green fire, and people just appearing out of thin air. If he wasn't used to weird things happening to him he would've thought he was hallucinating.

Holly noticing the look of absolute bewilderment on his face chuckled softly and at his inquisitive stare, she stated simply;

"Just like magic isn't it?"

Tom reeled back in shock, was that what he could do? He knew that he was special, was Holly like him? Was there an entire magical community hidden right under his nose that had been there the entire time?

With this new train of thought, he completely forgot about the reason he was there in the first place but was reminded when something warm was placed in front of him. He practically inhaled his food and saw Holly looking at him with something like pity on her pretty face. When he looked down at his plate he saw that it was full again, he looked up at Holly who just gave him a small wink and kept eating her lunch at a much slower and polite pace. Tom found himself imitating her, eating at a much less rapid pace once he realized that he could have as much as he wanted.

After finishing his third plate she asked him if he wanted dessert. He had never had dessert, apparently, it was very good, they only gave some to the "good" kids at Wool's so he wouldn't know, but judging by the faces the kids made after they had some he could guess.

He nodded and as soon as he did a plate smelling like the best thing he had ever smelt was placed in front of him, it looked like cake, but it wasn't white or as ugly as the orphanage one, it was brown, and looked absolutely amazing. Chocolate, his mind supplied, he had read about it in one of the second-hand books the charities would bring to the orphanage every month.

When he took his first bite his face lit up. he had never had anything as good as this. Holly seemed to notice this as she asked with a smile.

"Is it good?" He only nodded fervently in answer as his mouth was too busy eating to give her an answer.

Once he had had his second helping of cake, he was full, he had never been full before and he found that he quite liked it.

Holly seeing this signalled a waiter and paid the bill with what looked like gold coins. But he wasn't ready to leave, he wanted to stay in this magical place forever. But he knew he couldn't so when Holly got up to leave he did too when she walked towards the orphanage he did too only stopping at the gate to cast a last longing glance at her retreating figure.

As Tom sat on his bed he couldn't help but hope that today wasn't a lie, that it actually happened, but he knew deep down that orphans didn't get saviours that came to whisk them away to magical lands.

Holly couldn't actually stay.

He needed to stop reading fairytales.

This was the real world.

It wouldn't happen for him.

So why did he keep thinking about her parting words

"I'll see you soon Tom"
