Chap 2: Wu

The cold muzzle of the gun touched the back of a man's head.
"Raise your hands up. Forget the gun in your belt. You're not faster than my trigger."
That man was a bit surprised but undeterred, silently doing as he was told while Yan Wei took his well-hidden gun.
"Wei?"
"You still recognize me, Wu?"
The man slowly turned around, confirming that the face of the opposite person was the one he was suspecting, and his eyes flashed with surprise and joy.
"Because of our past, I let you know who is gonna kill you; even if you die, you won't become a ghost wandering and complaining."
"Ha ha!" A Vu laughed bitterly. "Compared to Wei that I know, it's a great privilege for the victim to be killed at this distance before dying. I am not afraid of death; I just regret that I have not found my brother yet."

Flashback
In a cold damn room, the walls were stained with burnt soil, the furniture and military equipment were scattered, and there were dozens of people here as well as one in the room. One boy rolled his eyes and looked around. It was confirmed that everyone is attentive to their food. He turned to the person next to him:
"Wei, do you still have relatives?"
The girl rolled her eyes at the person asking her, and then he looked back to the original point, seeming like she was going to answer. After a long silence, the teenager forced himself to return to his meal.
"No."
Unexpected reply, the joy appeared on that young face, but realizing it wasn't right, he immediately retracted her expression.
"Ah sorry! I don't mean to be happy. It's because you finally talked to me."
He's annoying but not obnoxious; anyway, he often concedes and helps her (even though she doesn't need it) and condescends to others, even though he's not that weak. She just didn't understand why a weak child like this came here.
"Why did you come in here?"
Seeing that this girl was not upset, the boy continued:
"Here, we are fed regularly and even taught how to protect ourselves, so why not?"
"Let me tell you a secret." He moved closer to her and tried to speak softly. "I was brought here by mistake. That day, my brother just beat the other boy to death. A very scary man came to ask us who did it. I was afraid that it was the father of those boys coming to take revenge. I did not know where I got such courage; I stood up to admit it was me. If he wants to take revenge, then just hit me. I'm an older brother, after all! I have to protect my brother for once. But that's not like I thought, he also promised to find adoptive parents for my brother and feed me well. So here I am! I don't have a picture of us together, but he looks exactly like me, so whenever I remember, I look at myself underwater like I see my brother. That's right! Introducing my younger brother: Wu!, he said while pointing at his own face.
End flashback

"Your brother...he lives a very good life."
"Did you meet him??"
Yan Wei didn't answer; he just nodded.
"Good. I believe you. Anyway, dying in your hands was somewhat comforting. Thank you for this gift. Goodbye, Wei Wei.
"Goodbye, Wu"
"Bang!" (Gunshot sound)

As you can guess, Wu is Yan Wei's comrade and Jiang Wu's brother.
In the original novel in Chinese, this character's name "Wu" and the inspector's name "Jiang Wu" are written differently. But when I translate into English, their names have the same pinyin or spelling.
I don't want to make you guys confused, but this is a language gap that we should accept. I prefer to keep this name because it's not a random name.
