Spock and Alex

Chapter Twenty Three

Alex on the other hand, was having a rather rough day. Little Amanda found her lungs, and hadn't been quiet since her father left that morning. Alex tried everything and gave up. She carried Amanda around to the turbolift, half hoping the change of scenery would distract the baby enough. Of course it didn't. Alex went to Sickbay.

Bones rather heard the baby coming before she entered the room. He wondered where he could find some old fashioned earplugs on the ship as the new mother came to him. He put down the file he was working on as she came to his office.
"What seems to be the problem?" Bones tried to yell.
"I've tried everything and nothing works," Alex replied. McCoy got his scanner out. He examined her for several long minutes which worried Alex.
McCoy then grabbed a hypo spray and used it on the baby. She started to get quiet.
"What was wrong?" Alex asked.
"Ear infection. Gave her some good old Tylenol. Guess her pointed ears are bothering her," he tried to joke. Alex frowned.
Bones gave her some suggestions to try to keep the baby calm. Alex left a while later.

Spock was glad his shift was over. He wanted someone else to be the gossip of choice for a while. He went straight to his quarters. Alex was rocking Amanda as she smiled at him.
"Spock, you're home," she said tired.
"Are you okay Alex?" He asked. He knew from their bond mate connection, she was irritated to say the least. She sighed.
"I had to see Bones. Amanda wouldn't stop crying after you left. She has an ear infection," Alex revealed as Spock frowned. Their baby had been perfectly healthy until now.
"Can I hold her?" Spock asked as he wanted to comfort her. Alex nodded and stood up. Spock took her and sat down. He put a hand to her temple.
"What are you doing?" Alex asked.
"Sending her soothing thoughts... she has a strong mind," Spock said quietly. Alex nodded her head. She knew she'd never have that kind of connection with their daughter.... Spock looked at her.
"What?" He asked.
"Nothing. I'm just going to lay down for a minute," she said as Spock didn't quite believe her.
"There are some things you should know little one. Your mother loves you so much, she just cannot speak with you like I can... so you should treat her with respect alright?" Spock said quietly. He felt Amanda's mind connect to his. It gave him a jolt. Amanda replied in his thoughts with

Yes daddy.

In Spock's mind. Spock felt a tear of joy come down his face. He never received a response from their child until today. He wanted to go tell Alex, but he could tell from her snoring, he should wait.
