Just Studying

HARRY POTTER

She's coming over to my dorm. Mira Malfoy is gonna be in my dorm. Why are you acting like this Harry? It's no big deal. You're just studying.

Just studying.

"Harry, hey!" Mira smiled, with her Potions book in hand. She nervously glanced at our surroundings, knowing that she's now in Gryffindor territory.

"Mira, thank you again, for helping with me this. I heard you're a big A student when it comes to Potions."

"It's the least I could do for you. You've helped me a lot with our secret meetings, so..."

Secret meetings? Oh— Dumbledore's army... right.

"Sure thing. Um, well come on in, then." I mumbled the Gryffindor common room password, watching as the Fat Lady glared at Mira.

She silently growled, as Mira and I stepped into the common room. I can tell by the way Mira held her book closer to her chest, she felt uneasy with her surroundings.

"Just stay close to me." I made sure she stayed behind me, as we walked through the Gryffindor common room.

No one say anything.
No one say anything.

"Heya, Harry— what's this Slytherin doing here? Or more particularly, why is Malfoy in our common room?"

You had to say something, Seamus.

"She's just helping me study, Seamus. Mind your business for once, yeah?" I grabbed Mira's hand, pulling her towards the boys dormitories.

"I'm sorry about him. He can be a complete git sometimes."

"No, it's alright. I see why he feels that way."

I opened mine and Ron's door to our dorm, walking us both in. I realized we were still holding hands, so I quickly let go.

"Um, so— shall we start?"

"Effectively forces the drinker to answer any questions put to them truthfully."

"Veritaserum."

"Last one... one of the strongest love potions in the world."

"Amortentia."

"Great job, you got all of them correct. It's like you didn't even need me to help you study." Mira chuckled, slipping her Potions book back into her bag.

I laid on my bed, on my stomach, and Mira sat on the floor besides the bed. For about an hour or two, non-stop we've been going back and forth with the meanings of potions.

Turns out, Mira has been struggling lately in Potions, too. I kind of felt bad, since it seemed as if I depended on her while she was struggling on her own.

Since we first started, there was not a moment where us being together... alone, felt odd. It honestly felt normal. Normal as if we were just two friends, helping one another pass the same class.

But that's just the thing... Mira and I aren't friends.

We know nothing about each other. The only thing we know more about each other, is our families. That's pretty upsetting, is it not?

Well, ya know, based on what we know.

"So..." I tried to think of something to make conversation of, watching as Mira looked around the dorm. "Do you have a date to the Yule Ball?"

Yes, we have a Yule Ball every year now since 4th year. No, I don't have a date. Am I looking for one? No. So am I going to my second Yule Ball alone? Yes.

"No... I actually kind of forgot about that. How about you? Who's the lucky gal?"

I laughed, "There isn't one. I don't have a date either. Although, it doesn't matter— I probably won't go anyway."

"Just because you don't have a date, doesn't mean you shouldn't go. I mean, can't you go with Ron and Hermione?"

"I bet you 5 gallons they go together."

We both laughed at the thought of Ron and Hermione actually going together. Like Hermione would give Ron a chance... sorry mate.

"Hey— why don't you and Blaise go together? I mean you guys seem to always be hanging out."

"Well, yeah, but... it's not like that. With Blaise. I love him, dearly, but we're just friends."

"Oh." Well, now I know nothing more is going on with those two. "Do you, maybe—"

"It's getting late— I should go." I was caught by surprise by Mira's sudden outburst; especially while I was talking... "Oh, sorry— were you saying something?"

I thought back to what I was gonna say. No, Harry... never.

"Um, no. But, yeah you should get going. Here, I'll walk you out."

I let her walk out the door first, closing it behind me. As we made our way down to the common room, we saw it was completely empty. I could tell Mira loosened up by the way her shoulders dropped, and she started breathing at a normal pace.

"Well, goodnight, Mira. Thank you for the help."

"You too, Harry. I'll see you at our next meeting." I pursed my lips, nodding. She was halfway through the door, as I started walking back to my dorm.

Although, when I looked back at her, she had already been looking back at me.
