The present...

Charity Loveheart had grown and matured a lot since she left her home in Massachusetts. had gone to school in France while living with her Aunt and was now 16 years. She wrote to Teddy every day for the past 9 years of her absence.

As of now, Charity sat in the back of a horse drawn carriage, excitement and anticipation piling inside her. The horses came to a halt and she climbed out of the carriage, bags in her hands.

Across the yard, a boy and 4 other girl made their way towards the frozen lake, trudging through the snow. The boy spotted the carriage and stopped in his place.

"What's wrong, Laurie?" asked the blonde girl, she was 12 years old, her name was Amy.

His heartbeat quickened and his breath shortened before calling out through the frosty air, "Cherry?"

Charity's head spun around looking for the sound of the voice, "Teddy?" She couldn't spot anyone and decided she must have imagined it all.

After getting a better look at her face he had realized his suspicions were correct, "Cherry!" He began to run down the hill.

After seeing the boy, Cherry dropped her back into the thick snow and running over, "Teddy!" she called in glee.

They met in the middle of the snow as the boy lifted her off the ground and held her tightly in his arms spinning her around softly. They laughed a little before pulling apart and she placed her hands on his face, "Look at you," She smiled, "You've gotten so tall and so much older and so much more... handsome!" she laughed.

"And you are just as beautiful as ever. What are you doing here?" he replied.

"I'm back Teddy. Arrangements have been made, my room has been set, I shall be living with you again." She laughed.

Teddy jumped up again whooping as he did so, "Cherry Loveheart returns!" he grabbed her hand leading her up the hill to where he left the other girls, "Girls, this is my Cherry, she was my bestfriend and she left years ago."

"Was?" She teased, "My name is Charity Loveheart, nice to meet you."

Laurie clapped his hands together, "Cherry, this is Meg March the very talented actress, Jo March the exquisite book writer-"

"Oh, I should get along with her just fine" Cherry interrupted.

Laurie continued the introductions, "The most skilled piano and singer I have heard, Beth March and finally the graceful painter and youngest of the bunch, Amy March"

The girl all greeted each other properly before Charity said, "I should bring my stuff inside and put on a proper pair of pants, it's quite cold outside-"

"Pants?" Jo asked in bewilderment, "Meg did you hear that? She wears pants!"

Charity giggled before putting a finger to her lips and shushing as a sign to keep her fashion a secret. "I'll catch up with you guys, it seems as though you are headed towards the lake, should I grab my ice skates on my way out?" she asked.

"Yes, and I'll come with you." Laurie said quickly.

"Laurie, my dear, don't be so improper, take these girls to the lake." Charity scolded him.

"We will be fine," Jo insisted, "Go on, take her."

Laurie smiled at Charity expectantly, "Fine, come on Teddy" she said.

After retrieving her bags and making their way into her room Charity decided to dress warmly before leaving for the lake, "Teddy, I'm going to need to change into my pants" she said insinuating his need to leave.

Instead of exiting the room, Laurie turned his back to the girl to provide her with privacy, "Laurie, you sly boy. I will not change with you in the room, back turned or not."

"It really is quite the same thing, Cherry. I wouldn't dare look." He said.

"Teddy, we have been apart for 9 years and you can't step out of the room for no longer than 9 minutes?" She judged.

"Now that you're back, I can never let go."

"Fine then, no peaking." She slipped of her skirt putting on her finest pair of pants, "Done!"

The boy watched as she rummaged through her bags pulling out a newsboys hat and ice skates. She tucked her hair into her cap to resemble a boy, "So no one will call me out on not dressing properly." she explained to Teddy's confused face.

"As strange as you have always been." He smiled linking arms with the girl.

"That girl is quite pretty. Jo, her name was?" Charity pointed out, "You like her?"

"A little" he smiled slightly, 'Not as much as I like you' he thought. And it was true, before the arrival of Cherry, the boy had felt strong feelings towards Jo. Now that she was back, Teddy was only reminded of how much he loved the girl he knew so well.

"Let's go catch up with the others" she said, quickening her pace as she walked.

As they trudged through the snow, Charity couldn't help but taking frequent glances at the boy she was once so close with, admiring their ability to pick up from where they left off so seamlessly.
