Barry Allen would be put to shame at that moment. My hand grabbed ahold of my phone and pushed the power button before I assumed Joseph could fully comprehend who the caller was. I should seriously consider becoming the new Flash.

"Won't you answer that?"

I looked up and locked eyes with my boyfriend. He was eyeing me warily, his eyes moving from my phone in my hand, to my face.

"Hello?" He tilted his head to the side. I blinked once and then twice and then multiple times. Stalling as much as I could, I thought up a reasonable explanation as to why I couldn't answer the call.

When I was with Joseph, I always felt a need to explain myself. I always wanted to be the best me, I didn't like to say anything that would piss him off and all I wanted was to be around him. I was what some people would call, whipped.

"How can a guy like you watch Penny on Mars?" A small smile crawled its way up to his face and Joseph leaned back into his chair.

"It's interesting nau. Do I need another reason?" I leaned forward, placing both my hands on the circular table. "Who is your favourite character? And don't say, Sebastian!"

"Seb." Then he grinned. "I didn't say Sebastian!" We both started laughing simultaneously and for a second there, the air was clear. Then my phone started ringing again.

Danny baby

Why was he calling me on this very important day? Why was he trying to ruin this for me? Not only was he in my dreams at night, or in my thoughts more recently by day, now he's disrupting my date with his dumb calls.

"If you answer it, they'll stop calling. It might be important." Once again, Joseph seemed less interested in anything other than his cellphone as he tapped away at the screen.

Excusing myself from the table, I headed off to answer the call. If this wasn't worth my time, Daniel would be digging his own grave.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Could you come over to my house?"

I had been to Daniel's house a couple of times. When the trekking crew wanted to play video games after leaving school early. The one time Emeka needed Daniel's note and Daniel wasn't in school. It was all a blur.

"Why?"

"We need to talk about something..." His words drifted off.

"What?" I turned around and looked back to my table. My chest tightened and I couldn't help but feel like I was cheating on Joseph by talking to my Fake Ex-Boyfriend on our date.

"I can't say it over the phone, I need to-"

"Daniel, I'm really busy at the moment."

"Where are you?"

"I'm on a date. With Joseph." I found myself grinning. Now that I had said it out loud, it even seemed more impossible.

"Oh."

"Oh? If you don't have anything to say-"

"Forget about coming to my house."

"Forget it? Why? I can still come. I was already planning to with Emeka and-"

The three consecutive beeps that cut me off were enough to explain that Daniel had hung up on me.

The audacity!

With a sigh of annoyance, I returned to the table. "So, what were we talking about?" I asked as I sat back in my seat. Joseph instantly looked up from his phone and gave me an apologetic smile.

I furrowed my brows trying to decipher the purpose of his smile. Had he done something wrong? "I have to go home. Something came up."

I didn't expect the date to end so soon. I had assumed we would spend as much time as possible, probably until the sunset. But sadly, all good things had to come to an end.

The second I got home, I headed straight for my bed. On my short way there, I came across a disturbing sight. A sight that would forever be with me until the day I died, no matter how hard I tried to forget it. I was sure.

My father was on top of Miss Nifemi.

They were kissing.

It wasn't some small cute kiss.

They were full-on making out and I had just witnessed it.

"What the hell!?"

I blinked rapidly, opening and closing my mouth in confusion because those words had not come out of me. I turned around in search of the unknown source and my eyes widened in fear for my Father's life.

"Mommy, you're back?"

Now those words were mine.
