Chapter Twenty-Three

Las Vegas!

We both woke-up at dawn, seeing the sun just beginning to sprout over the horizon. My eyelids felt heavy, my whole body was stiff and my back hurt every inch I moved it. A light wind must've bought some dust along with it because we were covered in a light dusting of dirt. At least Will and I had been smart enough to put our clothes back on before going to sleep. I imagined myself trying to find my clothes all sprawled across the floor, stark naked, with enough light for Will to be able to see my flusters of embarrassment.

"Good morning," Will said, stretching from his position on the car. He was obviously commenting about last night. I couldn't help but giggle.

"I feel like an old Granny."

Will gave me a look of horror. "That's...nice."

I cracked up. "I just feel so stiff!" I managed to sit up. I scurried my way to the side of the car and I managed to slide down the front mirror to the bonnet. I leapt onto the ground with an oof, my whole body groaning at the effort. "I feel like I need a bath right now." I tried to shake my hair out, throwing it forehead over my face before throwing it back, hoping some dust would sprinkle to the ground. I wiped down my arms with my palms. I didn't feel much better, to be honest, because my hands were now dirty too. At least my legs had been covered by the blanket so they were clean...ish.

That was the last time I was going to sleep on the roof of a car with just a blanket for comfort. It had been romantic but I was definitely paying for it now the night after.

"I need to pee," I whimpered, remembering the huge debacle about it yesterday. And I didn't want to have to make Will run all that way again, even if he did it willingly.

"Don't worry, we're only a couple of hours from LV!" I could already hear Will peeing around the other side of the car. How could he just do that so carefree?

"Hearing you pee is a major turn-off for me!" I joked, laughing at my own joke as I got into the passenger side of the car. It was so weird being in an American car, the steering wheel was on the other side. Will seemed to be absolutely fine with the whole thing. I imagined that he had been on holiday to America before or something.

"If I'm confident enough to let you hear me pee," Will began, still peeing, "After we'd just had sex the night before, then we're meant to be together."

My whole insides melted. Will really believed that? He did? That was such a sweet thing to say! Even if peeing was involved.

A couple of minutes later, Will was finished going to the loo. He hopped into the driver's side and started up the engine. It roared into life. The petrol light suddenly beeped, making Will curse under his breath.

"Will we have enough to get to LV?" I queried, seeing his pale expression.

"Hopefully."

So no, then.

My eyes fell to the converse I was wearing. They were grubby and even getting a few holes in them. They were alright to walk in...I tried to tell myself.

Pushing the thought of trekking in the desert in twenty-five degree heat out of my mind (for now), I inserted the Michael Jackson CD into the player. Smooth Criminal blasted out. At least it was an album of his Greatest Hits and not just one album filled with songs that sound alike.

I couldn't help but feel excited about seeing Las Vegas, even more excited than the other cities! Will and I both knew that Las Vegas was going to be fantastic.
