"I hate to interrupt the sappy moment, but we need to talk," a light voice said sarcastically behind us. Tam and I whipped our heads around to see our cloaked ally standing with a hand on their hip.

"W- who are you?" I stuttered nervously, Tam helping me stand up. I could tell from their voice that they were a girl, unless they were able to mimic.

"You'll know soon enough," she said simply. She handed me a neatly folded light blue envelope. "Give this to Dex Dizznee." A small gadget kept it from being opened. "He'll figure out how to open it," she added.

Tam and I gazed at the envelope, fingering the gadget. Then a shadow crossed over us and the girl was gone.

Dex's PoV ~

I woke up screaming bloody murder (a phrase that Sophie taught me to use), clutching the side of my head and pulling on my hair.

There was a panicked knock at my bedroom door, and I quickly stood up and opened it. "Are you okay?" Sophie asked, gripping a light blue envelope with a square gadget on it. Tam was behind her, and Marella came bolting up the stairs to us. "What the what is happening?" she asked. "I heard screaming."

"Sorry. I had a nightmare," I mumbled. Sophie nodded in understanding. "Our ally visited Tam and I a couple minutes ago," Sophie explained, handing the envelope to me. "She said that you'd be able to open it." I raised an eyebrow at her. "She?"

Sophie shrugged. "I mean... they sounded like a girl, unless they can mimic." I studied the gadget on the envelope. "Has a small forcefield around it like your gloves and fingernails, with a bit of encryption... aha!" I clicked two of the buttons on the side, slid a small lever, snapped a trigger stick, and then twisted a circle sphere part and it disintegrated into silver dust.

"That was quick," Marella noted. I gave her a small smile and ripped it open. Inside was a note in morse code.

I widened my eyes in surprise and disbelief. "What is it?" Sophie asked, squinting at the text. "It's just a random message. Gibberish," I lied. Luckily, Keefe wasn't with us.

Sophie gave me a skeptical look, but nodded. "Good night then," she said, and they left.

That night, I had no dreams.
