"I'm no pacifist, not in the slighest,"

James,
I still find it hard to believe that the world is at war. I mean, I understand that Will is in the military, and that war is always a possibility – I'm educated enough for that, at least, but I still find it wholly incomprehensible. I'm writing down my thoughts about this article that I saw in the Times today, about the air raid drill at P.S 229? Have you heard about it? I only know of it because of Jacobina, who was rendered nearly shell-shocked by the whole ordeal.
They're celebrating the success of it and everything. What does success mean in this? Not dying? I find it hard to understand why folks here want so bad to bring the war to this country. I'm no pacifist, not in the slightest, but you and I have both seen what the threat of war does to children at home. I worry about what it'll do to Jacobina. I worry that it will become normal for them like it did for us.
Anyway, I have attached that article to this note, in case you haven't had the chance to read it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, if you have any.
Yours,
Teresa.
