Chapter Thirty: Worthy

"Everything is theoritically impossible, until it is done." -Robert A. Heinlein."

-

We are all frozen in our place. We do not know how to attack someone who cannot be defeated. It is stupid to try to kill someone who cannot be killed. It is not until he speaks when we know the purpose of this encounter. "I'm not here to fight. We all know that would not go your way," Corvus stands in front of us.

"Then what are you here for?" Thor demands as he keeps a tight grip on Mjolnir.

"I am here to... negotiate," He answers.

"There is nothing to negotiate-"

"Oh, but there is everything to negotiate. My liege does not wish to start a war or battle."

"Really?" I sputter out, "Is that why he bombed our families and innocent civilians?"

"That was not to start a war," Corvus's voice sounds amused; however, his facial expression is still very ghoulish. "We have our reasons and we would not waste our resources on a petty reason as to start a war."

"Then why are you bombing us?"

"You have something of ours that we want back. We will stop bombing your pathetic planet and allow you to return safely home without any harm if you choose to accept the trade," Corvus explains calmly.

"What do we have? Is it the Titan artifacts?" Natasha inquires.

"Ha, those cheap metal weapons are easily replaceable. No, you have a little gem that originally belonged to Thanos. It's just a little relic that has been in our possession for years and we wish to have it back," Corvus has inched forward to where he only stands a few feet from me and the rest of the group.

"A memento is this important to you? Then why do I feel that we should not let you have it?" Captain America answers confidently.

"Relic, my ass," Tony scoffs.

"Well, you have the opportunity to save your planet but instead you mock the idea. I am sure that will sit will in your conscious as you watch your home burn into the nothingness of space," Corvus cocks his head.

"I just checked the archives; we don't have any records of any gems salvaged," Director Coulson tells us, "No one has anything on a gem."

"What does the gem look like?" Steve asks to buy our point team more time.

"It's yellow and it's a gem the size of a knuckle; it's not hard to recognize," He smiles maliciously.

Director Coulson chimes in again saying that S.H.I.E.L.D. does not have this stone. Corvus Glaive tells us that the gem was lost during the Battle of Berlin. Uncle Rhodey says that the military has not been involved with the clean-up of anything of Berlin. Unless it is on the black market, which we have been monitoring very, very closely, the gem has not been recovered. There is only a small percentage of Titan wreckage that has not been fully cleaned yet. The odds of the gem beings in human hands now or later are very slim.

"There's only one problem, we don't have the gem," Hawkeye crosses his arms.

"Liar!" Corvus growls.

"It's the truth," Clint reiterates, "We do not have the gem or even know what you are talking about. We cannot make the deal since we do not have the stone or whatever it is that you want."

"Liars! Why do you think we sent Black Dwarf down to stoop around with those Australian terrorists? Do you think we needed them for physical reasons? Ha! We had them running the black market to see if the gem came up. It did not, so that means your infernal organization has possession of it. Such an item would not remain unknown for long."
