Chapter Thirty-Four: Legs

"When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home." -Tecumseh

The room is completely lightless. A shield has slid down over the windows for protection. A room that was once illuminated by the shining stars and planets is now a young child's worst nightmare. I cannot see my teammates who are just feet from me. I am clueless as to what is happening right outside of the ship and around me.

As if the darkness is not enough, the ground beneath us tilts to a sharp angle. The sudden shift in footing comes before I am able to turn on Magnetar's lights. I yelp as I find myself falling backwards. The slope continues growing to where what was once the floor is now the wall. My feet fail to support my body and lose their grip.

I stumble backwards before falling and sliding down the floor. I hit the step to the raised level on my descent. I do not have the chance to use my repulsors to balance myself; I hit something that stops my sliding. I cannot tell where I am or where anyone or anything is for that matter. All I know is that I am lying on my side with my legs hanging over some edge. Using my knowledge about this room, I assume that I am at the opening of the room that contains Ebony's throne.

Something large scraping the floor is audible to my ears. I hear multiple items clattering as they fall out of their place and down towards me. I attempt to react quick enough to remove myself from the path of destruction. Despite my efforts, something larges catches my foot. I shriek as I am dragged down into the hole. I crash into what I believe to be the sumptuous throne. All of the air is knocked out of my lungs when I come to a crashing stop at the bottom of the hole. My metal leg is caught and twisted under some type of debris. I use my right leg to try to free myself from being ensnared. Regardless of my best endeavors, my left leg remains where it is.

My heart pounds in my chest as I hear more objects falling in my direction. I hear the creaks and groans of the ship losing materials due to the unnatural position. An item lands on my abdomen and my right arm. The longer I remain here, the more trapped I become.

I switch my vision to nighttime so I can see in the dark. All I can identify around me are piles of various objects entangling me. It is fruitless to use my repulsors; the more items on top of me that I destroy mean the more items that will be crushing me. I feel a pole maneuver its way through the rubbish to my trapped leg. The sharpest end strikes my calf. I am not surprised when my armor protects me. However, my brief second of happiness is short lived. Something big and heavy strikes down on the pole. The rod is driven down into through my armor and through my leg.

I cry out as the heavy object also pushed down on that leg, bending it more out of position. A stinging pain burns in my upper thigh. I should not be feeling pain because of this. How does a metal leg with no ability to feel discomfort hurt? Now I know I am in trouble.

More random things continue to be pulled down by gravity onto me. Lucis's ability to see past what is right in front of me only reveals a great pile of wreckage settling on top of me. With all of this misfortune occurring to me, I have not even thought of my fellow colleagues who are facing the same situation as me! I can only hope they escaped the fate that has grasped me.

An agonizingly slow half of a minute passes and nothing more falls. The spaceship appears to have stopped moving and has settled on this unwanted angle. The only logical reason for this movement is that the blast of the bomb that Hulk detonated really, really damaged the spacecraft.
