Carter's Perspective: (Second Eldest Brother, 24)

My heart pounds with each breath, vibrating through my ears and skull like an echo called from Mt Everest. Our ancient grandfather clock resonates with ten ominous chimes into my dimly lit bedroom from down the winding stairway. The analog clock on my phone agrees with urgency, shocking me into to alertness as I listen out for my sibling's footsteps. A few minutes pass by as I listen, my eyes carving out the outline of my slick wooden study desk, running past magazines decorated with neatly grown vegetables or timeless architecture and trying to find some reassurance in packed wooden shelves against my beige walls. Of course I felt guilty of taking advantage of Author's recent distraughtly behaviour regarding Ethan, but I couldn't stand it. I had cooked up an intricate plan the moment I realised this was happening, so I hopped out of my bed, shrugging on a jacket. A quick glance in the mirror reassured my insecurities and I managed to unlock my bedroom window with no difficulties. Thankfully, everything was working out just like I intended, which isn't a common occurrence. Despite my anxiety, I realise that my existence is still quite poetic, huh? Secret love sounds like something I'd find in the abundance of romance novels hidden away inside the family library, yet here I was, living the fantasy. I leapt out of my bedroom window, landing on the moist grass with a thump, excitement running through my veins. I couldn't wait to meet him again. 

A Few Days Later

I feel a blush creeping up my neck and dancing across my cheeks, my eyes sneaking a glance in between sips of my soda. I'm not stupid enough to drink after sneaking out at midnight, but dammit, I feel like I'm already submerged in alcohol. Ethan was in charge tonight, despite me being older, as Author had decided to hand us some more responsibility. It was so bloody tiring and I couldn't wait to escape life's evil clutches. We'd known each other forever, and when he finally confessed, it felt like confetti exploded inside me and dragged me into love. A content sigh escapes my lips as I gaze at his hair, jet black and tousled so much it nearly covered his eyes. Now that would be disappointing, because those eyes are like the bark of the tree of wisdom, etched lines of stories and hardships. He winks slyly at me, grabbing my waist and placing my drink away in one swift motion. Smiles decorate our faces, bodies swaying slowly with the waltz as music fills my ears. Heaven descends onto my mind with every second and my lips collide with his in a symphony of joy. We dance in the love for a while until we're interrupted by a drunk man, his drink soaking our shirts. Gasping, I wince at the cold dampness of my shirt, wrinkling my nose at the overwhelming stench of alcohol. I'll have to remember to wash it later, but for now, I should tread carefully."Well, that was an experience, huh?" 

"Seriously, you dance like a pro." Josh leans into me, a smirk creeping onto his face. His head inclines downwards and I can't stop staring at those lips. We both breathe deeply, and control is thrown to the wind."Can I kiss you?"

 "Go ahead, prince."  Our lips crash together for a minute and I float into undeterred joy, my chest heaving and mind falling out of consciousness. In a few moments, I pull away reluctantly, smiling at him shyly. "That was the best thing I've ever done."
