Detective Kelly arrived the scene and went straight to the fire chief. She was already briefed on her way, but the scenario was worse than she thought.
Spotlights from fire trucks and helicopter all focused on a single spot, a figure standing seven floors up, in a piece of loose hospital gown flapping under the strong wind, threatening to blow her off the roof.
"How many men do you have up there?"
"Six men on the roof, four more working their way from the floor below."
"Do you have the mattress ready?"
"It's on its way. We didn't know there's a jumper." the fire chief answered. "But it's not gonna do good from this height."
"Thanks! Please do everything you can!"
"You know we do."
Fire department, hospital and police share a close bond, one needn't further reminder but to trust their professionalism.
Kelly turned to look at the crowd, Christi was calling for her, trying to break free from the police barrier. For a split of a moment they locked eyes, nodded as if reading each other.
Please save my baby!
I'll do all I can!
Waste not another second, Detective Kelly ran into the hospital building.
