LORI
I sat in my seat in silence, waiting patiently for them to return. What was taking so long? I looked down at my right hand and sighed. It was sore but not as bad as I expected it to. Was this because of this thing inside me or was it because I felt numb? I couldn't bear to think of what would've happened if I had hit Egon. Would he have gotten seriously hurt? Would I have been able to stop? My skin crawled at the thought.
"Terres?" A man called out. Nervously I stood up and followed the man through a set of double doors. "How are you this afternoon, Miss Terres?"
"Could be better," I admitted.
"Oh?"
"Yeah, some evil spirit is trying to kill me, but at least I woke up today. So, the usual boring day."
"You're funny," the man chuckled. "I always admired that about you. It's been a while, hasn't it?"
"Yeah."
"Are you're sure you're ready for this? You might come to find that things are different."
"I know...but I need to do this." The man sighed and opened a locked door and led me inside and down the hallway. We stopped outside a window and he motioned me forward. I looked to the window and smiled. My mom sat at a table with a large notepad and coloring pencils, drawing fervently, not even noticing my presence on the other side of the window.
"She looks great," I admitted.
"She's put on a few pounds, which is good since the doctor said she was looking a bit underweight last month."
"Did she get my Christmas present I sent her last year?"
"She did," the man nodded. "She ate all the snacks and still uses the blanket to this day."
"Good."
"Miss Terres...the doctor was wondering if you could shed some light on something."
"I already told you guys, I don't know who he is."
"No, not that." The man reached into his pocket and handed me a folded piece of paper. "She's been drawing this nonstop for the past few days." I unfolded the paper and examined the drawing. Two large eyes were centered on the page in amazing detail. My eyes widened at the sight...I didn't know she could draw this good. "We were hoping you could tell us what they are."
"Eyes, obviously."
"Well...yeah. But I meant, have you seen them before?" I looked down at the drawing and studied it for a moment. The eyes were blue and stood out the most through the under-eye bags and furrowed prominent brow. The nose, or at least the bridge of it showed that, whoever it belonged to, had a rather large nose accented by deep nasolabial lines on each side. "Miss Terres?"
"I can say that, without a doubt...I have no idea who this is." The man sighed and looked back at my mother, who was grabbing another sheet of paper. "Can I talk to her?"
"I don't think that'd be a good idea."
"She's medicated isn't she? You guys told me it was working for her."
"Well, yes, but—"
"Then I'm going to see her."
"Miss Terres—"
"I haven't talked to her in years, I'm not asking for permission." I walked off towards the door and waited. The man let out a sigh and reluctantly unlocked the door.
"Ten minutes and not a minute more." I gently nodded and entered the room, but Mom didn't even notice me. Slowly, I made my way over to the table and sat down across from her, but she didn't look up, she just kept furiously drawing the same set of eyes. I looked around the room taking in the sight. All over the walls, the same eyes were hanging up. My skin instantly crawled; it was like each set of eyes were watching me.
