Yoru x Reader: I'll Return

Chapter 3: An Unrivaled Enemy Approaches

As the plane from the operation descended, you felt the plane land on top of the landing point within the Valorant headquarters. But you managed to still hear Brimstone's familiar voice.
"[Your Name] is very weak right now. Someone just take her to the infirmary."
Phoenix was about to take you and hold you, even tried to nudge at you to wake up, but instead, Yoru stopped Phoenix and softly said, "I'll do it."
"Whoa whoa, really? What's this all of a sudden, you taking care of [Your Name]? Are you the alternative ego of Yoru?" Phoenix joked.
"Shut the hell up, fire face and let me do it!"
Phoenix held his hands up in surrender and Yoru managed to pick you up like a princess and into the rolling stretcher.
You could hear a faint beep of the infirmary as the nurses checked your pulse and managed to slip you into one of the visitation rooms for further inspection.
Your mind drifted, started dreaming of Yoru, your images of him fending off the guards and him touching your shoulder with his icy touch from his void rift. However, you dreamed of something else. Another image popped into view, only this time it was more horrific. Yoru somehow was dying to a strange figure. You couldn't make out the figure but as you saw Yoru getting stabbed after what looks like him being trapped in some sort of bubble. You couldn't help but scream and then the neon lit-faced figure looked at you emotionless.
As your reality kicks in hard, you woke up breathing heavily as you heard Phoenix on your right side in surprise. "Whoa whoa fella, what happened? Nightmare?"
You can't help but breathe heavily as you contemplate what just happened. "W-Where am I" You asked Phoenix as you tried to get out of the infirmary bed.

"You're in the Infirmary room, my dear. Uh... someone managed to carry you over here," Phoenix explained as he started to rub the back of his head. You were looking at him with one eyebrow over your one eye in confusion.

"Like who? Is it Sir Brimstone?" You asked as if you were trying to guess a game. "Or don't tell me it's Killjoy? Although I know she's a girl and maybe she's using her robots probably to carry me over to the Infirmary."

"Uh you're not gonna like what I'm gonna tell you it's-" Phoenix was interrupted when the door suddenly swung open. You recognized his blue and orange coat and his expressionless face. 

"Hey how are you feeling little noob?" Yoru asked as he grabbed a chair and set it in front of the bed with the back of the chair used for his arms. 

"It was him, [Your Name]. Sorry if it wasn't me that carried you, I would've been the lucky one but this sucker of a dragon here gets to call the shots," Phoenix pointed at Yoru feeling disappointed.

"Wait... why Yoru? I thought you disliked me?" You asked as you nearly pulled out the medical syringe out of your left arm but Brimstone and Phoenix stopped you immediately with their force.

"Stand down, soldier. You need more time to rest," Brimstone explained with a hushed voice. 

"Well I wasn't the type to actually carry bodies but... you're pretty light, noobie," Yoru said with a slight purse of his lips feeling a bit annoyed. "You were pretty weak but you were just resting in the plane which I don't blame you for really."

You couldn't help but feel a slight red but you managed a sigh of relief and released your inner embarrassment out of you. "Captain, what's the situation now? Have you retrieved what I have gotten from our previous mission?"

"Yes, we managed to decode it with Killjoy, Sova, and Viper's help. That Spike canister that you had retrieved was heading towards another part of Mexico. But I know there are a whole lot more than just this canister alone. I also wanted to inform both of you all about what Phoenix has found as well."

Brimstone looked at you, disheartened by the fact that with this much briefing, you wouldn't be able to sleep well enough. So he explained, "Let the kid rest fellas. [Your Name] I'll see you in a day or two. We'll be in touch."

As the three men gently exited the door, you couldn't help but feel really lonely and sad at how you were performing during the operation.

Dammit, [Your Name], you shouldn't be too reckless! 

You suddenly heard some footsteps away from the door and you were curious so you suddenly asked, "Hello? Is anyone there?"

The footsteps took off in another direction and then only silence had enveloped the Infirmary room. You couldn't help but well up in tears as you felt like a true disappointment and you hugged yourself as you drew your knees inward towards your body, hoping to comfort yourself as much as you could.

After several days of rest, you managed to walk into the briefing room where everyone was waiting patiently. Killjoy and Phoenix waved at you and Killjoy asked, "How are you feeling, mate?"

You sighed but smiled brightly, "I had enough rest, but I'll be fine."

"That's good to hear, I heard that you got injured in the battle."

You looked at your right hand that was wrapped around with bandages. You stared at it for a minute until you felt Yoru's eyes on you. You looked up for a hot minute but Yoru turned his face away with his eyes closed.

"Alrighty fellas, let's get this show on the road. So congratulations on that operation by the way, [Your Name], Phoenix, and Yoru. But we're obviously not done yet. Since that canister was last scanned for Mexico, we should probably check that out and hope that those Spikes aren't distributed around the country side. Also one more thing before we explain the mission, Killjoy?"

Brimstone looked at Killjoy with an accepting nod. Killjoy nodded back and stood up from her chair and switched the screen.
"Phoenix brought something else for us to decode besides the Spike that [Your Name] brought to us. And this is what I decoded."
As Killjoy typed into the digital keyboard, a video popped up showing a familiar figure. You couldn't help but feel shocked as your eyes widened in fear.
A robotic man was prowling around the streets of what looks to be the United States, New York City. In the footage, people were screaming, running for their lives as the robotic man threw a blue-ish purple orb and managed to detain one of the civilians.
"Heeelp me!" The civilian screamed.
As the footage kept going, you couldn't help but look away as you heard the sound of a splatter. The robotic figure was using some sort of blade that appeared on his right arm and decapitate the civilian like butter. Blood was flowing out of her neck uncontrollably and he held the head of the civilian like a trophy.
"Sorry this was... gruesome I know but this is the footage that Phoenix took from one of the labs in the Icebox," Killjoy said in sadness.
Brimstone had his arms crossed and shook his head, "My arch nemesis... code name: KAY/O."
"Who is that...?" You asked slightly out of breath.
"A secret organization created him, using what they knew about Brimstone. They duplicated Brimstone's mentality and physiological aspects but made him with different utilities. We thought we've seen the last of KAY/O but I just knew it was too good to be true."
Brimstone slammed his fists onto one of the desks. "I thought he malfunctioned for good! I seen him tremble in fear the last time I fought him."
"Guys, this is going to be a dreadful mission. And this is gonna require two separate teams. Although this is an old footage of KAY/O attacking what looks to be New York City, we need to be extremely vigilant because he could be anywhere at anytime," Killjoy explained with a worried look.
"That is correct, Killjoy. The first team will infiltrate Canada which is the second largest populated continent above the United States, make sure everything is secure and everyone is safe. That team that will infiltrate Canada borders will be Viper, Reyna, and Killjoy. Phoenix, Yoru, and [Your Name], will infiltrate Mexico and see if there are any suspicious activity there and shut down their factories by blowing up their main lines and supply lines that which feeds for the Spike productions."
Everyone nodded in sync as Brimstone looked at them in confidence. "Alright the operation is in a few days, make sure you use this time to do your training and research before that starts. Dismissed everyone!"
