I suppose that brings us to current time. Now, as you walk away from the home you haven't left in at least twelve years, you can't help but wonder if you made the right choice.

You stare over your shoulder as you walk, watching Rapunzel's hair weave its way through the soft grass. You study the tower -- you've never really seen it before. At least, not that you can remember. You plan to return to the tower, of course, you just don't know when or how furious Mother will be. You continue walking, not realizing that the people in front of you have stopped, and walk straight into Flynn's back.

"Oh! I'm sorry. I'm really sorry," you say quickly, backing up. You can feel your face heating up. He glances over his shoulder at you.

"I'm not worried," he says. "Now where was that opening?"

Rapunzel rolls her eyes. "Literally, right there."

"Save me the attitude, blondie," Flynn says annoyedly.

"No, it's quite obvious, actually," you say, gesturing to the gap in the rocks to your right.

"Shut up," he mumbles. "I don't have to do this for you."

"You do if you want this," you taunt, twirling the satchel in circles around your arm. Rapunzel chuckles at the exchange, and your heart immediately feels lighter.

Soon, you are walking through the vines that shroud the other end of the tunnel. Rapunzel starts running around, determined to see every single groove in every single tree and every single bug on every single blade of grass.

"This is amazing!" she shouts happily, climbing a tree. "I'm outside! I actually left! Oh, my goodness, we did it, (y/n)!"

"Hold on, you've never left that tower?" Flynn questions, leaning against a tree, not amused by Rapunzel's antics.

"Nope. Neither did (y/n)," she continues, her arm the only thing keeping her from falling out of the tree.

"Why?"

"They'll use my hair," your little sister answers simply.

"Right..." Flynn says, not convinced. "So what's the deal with the lanterns?" He pushes himself off of the tree and continues through the forest. Rapunzel hops down and you follow them. Your bare feet step on a branch and you yelp.

"Every year on her birthday they appear. We've never really known what they are. Mother always said they were stars," you say, lifting your foot and rubbing the sore spot.

"Oh, no... how could we do this to her? We have to go back. I am a horrible daughter," Rapunzel panics.

"No, no. Don't give up on this. We'll go back later, I promise!" you reassure, for not only her benefit but yours too.

"She's right," Flynn says. You nod before he says, "This would ruin her." You realize he's talking to you.

"Ruin her?" you ask, stopping in your tracks.

"Well, I'm assuming you're close with your mother," he turns around as you nod, and continues, "and what, she doesn't deserve this, does she?"

Rapunzel shakes her head vigorously. "Okay. And you two have decided to run away without her knowing where you're going just to see some lanterns she could've taken you to see anyway." Flynn concludes.

"No, she wouldn't. We tried asking," Rapunzel says gloomily.

"Well, a little rebellion is a part of growing up," Flynn shrugs, picking a berry on a nearby bush to eat.
