The Woods, Birmingham, 1921:
I T was oddly uneasy to be with Pius again. Eleanor should've realized such a fact when the next day Pius had agreed to meet her thanks to Polly's delivered message. Elle hadn't believed Polly would agree after their hostile conversation, the blonde thought her pride, her lack of apology would only anger the woman, but she had been confident and she waited. And soon Pius showed up, causing Elle to feel a breath in her throat so tight it was suffocating her.
Of course, she didn't know what to say. Yes, a part of her wanted to apologize, to beg for forgiveness, but the other, the bigger part of her, was adamant to stoop yet again, even for her brother. Elle feared their meeting would result into chaos, but decided to brace herself. Being with Pius wouldn't be the hardest thing she has ever done.
Pius, on the other hand, despite Eleanor's wish to meet him in the woods, decided to come and yet when he finally did get out of the car, seeing Elle hold flowers in her hands, he grew rather dull really soon.
Smiling unsuccessfully Eleanor watched Pius stop in front of her, his dull eyes making her feel uncomfortable. She stood her ground, however, aware being weak was not going to be how she was going to make him see the real her. The flowers in her hands felt heavy all of a sudden so she looked down, feeling rather easier despite his open stare. Eleanor wanted to punch herself and in the end only looked up, finally deciding to speak since she invited him here. "Follow me," was all she could say and began to walk off of the road, confusing Pius, who had no idea where she was taking him.
Groaning under his breath, the broken man followed after his broken sister, who surprisingly knew the path of the woods, dodging trees, bushes or mud and leading him somewhere. Eleanor was silent before Pius grew impatient and said something he actually did not wish to tell his sister. "Where are we going? I didn't agree to meet you so I could get mud all over my shoes!" he exclaimed angrily, Eleanor walking ahead of him as Pius glared at the back of her blonde head. "Not that I agreed to come here, I was forced more like it."
Eleanor swallowed the painful realization, deciding to turn around as she stopped and he almost bumped into her, glaring at her for stopping even. The two siblings with many unresolved issues stared at each other for a good moment, finally just the two of them, without another soul present. Eleanor tried to see some love, some respect, some trust Tommy had told her he's seen in Pius, but all Elle fished was just disdain, anger and pain. Perhaps, the last emotion was a start, perhaps, she had to start from there. "Were you?" she only questioned painfully, seeing Pius's jaw clench, the brother suddenly averting his gaze elsewhere.
Eleanor then looked down at her muddy shoes, feeling herself ache. She hadn't wanted to go back there, to a place where the last bit of her humanity had been laid, but it was time, Elle knew. Taking Pius with her hadn't been her plan either, but she had to show him the reason she was so cold. She had to show him what was taken away from her. Especially since Eleanor knew Pius was aware she was trying to kill Nina. "But you came here by yourself..." she then told him, aware Pius would loathe being contradicted or taken as a fool. The older man returned his somewhat sad eyes onto Elle's hazel ones, snickering, but having no words to answer her. "You told me I was dead to you."
