Scarlett's POV:

I couldn't believe it when Y/n was not only attending the dinner but was also acting as our host for the evening. I was going to take this opportunity to learn more about her and enjoy this time together. She has a hold over me; I couldn't stop staring. I never knew someone in uniform could be so attractive. It fitted her so well and once she took her jacket off later in the night, I couldn't help but notice the outline of her toned body through the shirt.

Y/n was so attentive, but I couldn't help but get slightly jealous at the small flirtatious interactions her and Lizzie were having. I need to find my confidence or I'm never going to get a chance. When Y/n got up to get our next lot of drinks Lizzie pulled her chair closer. "Enjoying your night? I think Y/n is. She's trying to hide it, but I've notice her gazing at you. I think you should ask for her number tonight, maybe a dance also." She says leaning in so the guys couldn't hear.

"It's so nice getting to know her a bit more. She's so easy to get along with. For once Lizzie, I think you're right, even if this doesn't go anywhere, I know that I want Y/n in my life in some format." I don't know whether it was my confidence growing or the steady flow of alcohol I had been consuming, but I knew I had to take this opportunity.

"Wow, did you just admit I was right? Where's a camera when you need one?" Lizzie laughed. Before I had the chance to retort back to Lizzie, I heard a familiar voice which brought me warmth. "Having fun here ladies?" I looked up to see Y/n smiling as she placed our drinks down in front of us. "Thanks Y/n, and yes it's been great so far. Uh I actually have something to ask you." I responded taking the chance to ask her now before I lose this new found confidence.

"Great, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Of course, what can I do for.... "she was interrupted by her phone ringing. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. A slight hint of concern appeared on her face. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I really need to take this, it's Ava's babysitter. I'll be back in just a moment." She said looking apologetic.

I nodded in understanding and i watched as she walked away to take her call outside. I sighed a little, hoping I would have the courage to ask her again when she returned.

Y/n POV:

I went out into the corridor to answer the facetime from Missy. "Hey Missy, is everything ok?" I asked, eager to get back to the party. "I'm so sorry to disturb you, but Ava won't go down without saying goodnight to her Mum. I tried everything but she was just getting more agitated. "

"That's ok Missy, put her on." I responded as the phone focused on the floor as she took me to my daughter. A smile immediately formed on my face as Ava appeared on my screen. Her eyes clearly tired but I could tell she was trying so hard to stay awake. "Hey Mummy, you look pretty." She says stifling a yawn.

"Thank you bug, but that isn't going to keep you out of trouble. Why aren't you in bed?" I asked. "I miss you Mummy. You're always here to say goodnight to me. Missy doesn't know our goodnight dreams." She mumbled.

"Ok bug, but you need to listen to Missy ok. She's in charge whilst I'm not there. But just for tonight I'll let you off. Get into bed and I'll say goodnight before you go to sleep ok. How does that sound?" I was a sucker for this kid. I heard a cheer on the other end as she rushed to the bedroom, almost dropping the phone on her way. I couldn't help but chuckle at her eagerness.

"Ok Mummy, I'm in bed now." I could see her pass the phone over to Missy as she pulled the blanket up to her chin. "Ok baby. You ready?" I asked. She responded with an enthusiastic yes as she grinned, snuggling more into the bed. "I'm ready Mummy." "Ok. Goodnight my sweet princess. May your dreams be full of uhh, oh wait, what do you want to dream about tonight sweety?" I asked trying to do our tradition over the phone.
